À propos de ce produit

Product Information

This new book is everything the toy gun collector could ever wish for, with over 600 full-color photographs of cap guns and gun accessories and a current value guide Cap guns have been mass-produced since the post-Civil War era, made of wood, lead and iron. Designs were unusual; some guns pictured in this book even had two-and three-dimensional figures, or were animated with moving figures In the 20th century toy guns became realistic models, of cast iron, wood, composition, and plastic. Since 1950, most toy cap guns continue to be made of plastic or die-cast material. Cap guns from the Baby Boomer era of 1940-1965 are currently the most popular with collectors. Guns shown in this book reveal the public fascination with cowboys and westerns, from Roy Rogers and Gene Autry to Hopalong Cassidy and the Lone Ranger. The glamorous guns of this period featured character names, shiny finishes, fancy plastic grips, and holster sets with sparkling stones and studs. Interest in toy guns has grown tremendously in the past few years. Demand far exceeds what is currently available for purchase as cap guns become one of the hottest collectibles among antique toy enthusiasts.

  • Buying Guides to Collecting

After my mother passed away, we held an auction of the house holdings. The attic was piled with items from the over 50 years our family lived in the house. It brought back many memories when my old cap guns were found and brought out for the sale. One of them was my old Rifleman gun, still in working order. We had agreed to sell everything so than we didnt fight over items so the rifle and my old Derringer pistols went on the block. It sparked a lot of interest in me as I am a confirmed COLLECTOR OF ALL. I wanted to know more about the old cap guns I had as a child and so I looked for a book to help me understand what was out there. CAP GUNS by JAMES DUNDAS was a good starting point for me. It pictures his own collection and gave me insight into what collectors looked for in cap ...

  • "Cap Guns" book by Dundas - not nearly as good as Schleyer's "Backyard Buckaroo" book

This book is about the same size (overall dimensions and number of pages) as Schleyer's "Backyard Buckaroos - A Guide to Western Cap Guns" but is very lacking in comparison. This book has far less guns and info as compared to Schleyer's book, also, with the literally thousands of different cap gun leather holsters, this book has only a few pictured as compared to Schleyer's book - the choice would be Schleyer's book by a mile - these are the only 2 books I know of about old toy cap guns and holsters.
