Product Information

"Covenant is Stephen R.] Donaldson's genius "-- The Village Voice He called himself Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever, because he dared not believe in this strange alternate world on which he suddenly found himself. Yet the Land tempted him. He had been sick; now he seemed better than ever before. Through no fault of his own, he had been outcast, unclean, a pariah. Now he was regarded as a reincarnation of the Land's greatest hero--Berek Halfhand--armed with the mystic power of White Gold. That power alone could protect the Lords of the Land from the ancient evil of the Despiser, Lord Foul. Except that Covenant had no idea how to use that power. . . .

  • Thomas Covenant, The Unbeliever

This series is EXCELLENT! It is actually a 6-book set, and is very much like 'The Wizard Of Oz' in the concept : The character loses consciousness and wakes up in 'another world,' a place of good and evil, real travel, real people, real death and danger, real experience. At the end, he is somehow made unconscious again, and wakes up in 'his real world' so.... was it a dream, or was it real? There is a dictionary in the back, and many words are created for 'this world' but it's not hard to follow. It is adult; that is, it is not a child's book, although young people can read it too. It has some theology in it (although his concept of theology is dreadful and wrong)to explain the good and evil, but it is primarily an adventure drama series that is very captivating. If you like Sci-Fi, get ...

  • Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever (Book 1)

Thomas Covenant is a writer who lives at Haven Farm in a small town and he is also a leper. One day he blacks out and ends up in 'the land' where he is suddenly filled with life and his leprosy is gone. Being a practical person he cannot believe what is happening to him and while in the land he refuses to go along with anything that happens earning him the title of the Unbeliever. Book one in this series introduces us to the lead character and give you an understanding of leprosy and it's impacts on the person who suffers from it. This is a great series that deals with a fantasy land that is full of magic, intrigue and violence. Donaldson wrote this book in 1977 and it was only a moderate success at the time but it has continued to sell over the years and has become a modern classic ...

  • In summary, I enjoyed the summary of the book, but not the story.

I wanted to like it. I just couldn't. Thomas is in my mind... an unquestionably disgusting human being, first off. The author leaves out a lot of things you would like to know, but then his repetition on certain matters are truly a grind to read through. Could not finish it. I honestly don't feel comfortable even donating it to the local library as I wouldn't recommend it. I just happened to have some serious issues with this first book, and it has derailed me from even finishing IT or continuing the rest of the chronicle. I myself looked up reviews and wanted to know how it progressed to see if I should continue. You'll either like it or hate it, so I have gathered.

  • interesting since fiction.

FIRST OFF I read the 1st and 2nd series and this Bok was easier to read with the larger print. At first it is kind of drab and sort of interesting but after about 200 pages it became very interesting and I was hooked for all the books in this series.

If this set was made into a move it would top Harry potter films great reading. Donaldson has such an imagination he keeps you totally capativated at any part of the book. there are on high or low reading spots just smooth reading.
