The Trilogy Is Finally Complete after 30 Years.
Even though I had problems finishing this film about 5 times, it was truly worth finishing. I finally got to the end even though the was somewhat distracting with all the images of black magic, possession, gore, and witchcraft intermingled with many familiar scenarios. The slowness in places is only more or less, less disturbing than trying to watch a film at night that has very loud scenes intermixed with people talking very low and solemn with accents. I can't really say the script was too awfully good but I've followed films with much more confusing plots. The main character Sarah Mandy (Asia Argento) was a bit too naive at times, but it made for a somewhat interesting story. The story goes like this: While excavating outside of a cemetery in the countryside, the workers accidentally find the coffin of the noble Oscar de la Vallée chained to a small urn buried since 1815. Monsignor Brusca orders to rebury the coffin inside the cemetery and sends the sealed urn to the director of the Museum of Ancient Art in Rome, Michael Pierce, who is an expert in mysticism and occult science, to confirm his fears. However, Michael's assistant Giselle Mares decides to open the urn with the student of Art Restoration and Archeology and Michael's lover, Sarah. While opening, she cuts her finger and drops blood on a magic red tunic, resurrecting the evil witch Mater Lachrymarum, who immediately spreads a wave of violence, death and destruction in Rome and attracts witches from everywhere. While visiting Padre Johannes seeking answers, Sarah meets Marta Calussi that tells that Mater Lachrymarum (played by Moran Atias) is trying to bring the second age of witches after the falling of Rome with chaos and human despair. Further, Sarah's mother was a powerful white witch that dared to fight against the evil black witch and Sarah has inherited her abilities and is the last hope to stop the evil witch. The casting in this film was excellent. Asia Argento delivers an uneven but very physical and energetic performance. Adam James is a decent lead and it's always nice to see old legends of Euro cinema like Udo Kier, Coralina Cataldi Tassoni, and Philippe Leroy doing some fun cameos. The special effects from the great Sergio Stivaletti are mostly good and gory, delivering many effective nasty shocks in the murderer's scenes. Claudio Simonetti's music isn't as loud and memorable as SUSPIRIA and INFERNO's soundtracks, but it does the job very well and it is again a slightly different composition full of electronic beats with some lyrical, effective nods to Jerry Goldsmith and Bernard Herrmann. There are scenes in this film that stood out as plain silly. The scene where the possessed woman throws the baby off the bridge was a really bad mistake, since the dummy hit the side of the bridge, flipped in the air and took the dummy's hand off and then hit the water in pieces. Another funny scene followed by a descriptive line in the film was when they entered the catacombs that no-one supposedly had never seen in centuries, but there were candles light about every 6 feet on both sides. It's also may be of interest to note that Daria Nicolodi, who played her dead mother is actually Asia Argento's real mother. I'll give this film a 4/5 because of the physical achievement and drive the director had to complete this trilogy after over 30 years in film. Last in the Three Mothers Trilogy.
This is a good movie and the finale to the three mothers. Finally have the unrated version also. Has a descent amount of gore which I love.

good end to the trilogy
THis is the third movie in the three mothers trilogy. The first is the classic "suspiria" and the second was 'inferno" . This movie is a great ending to that story. It is a italian production so it doesn't have the budget of a major studio still in spite of that the acting of the excellent asia argento helps to carry the story to it's gruesome conclusion. Dario argento makes excellent horror movies and his giallo type of thriller or murder mystery are among the best in the world. THe mother of tears is a good horror movie that tells the story of the last surviving mother and her desire to destroy the world with evil. The acting is not bad here and you can't compare a low budget movie to a high budget one as far as effects go but it does have a ... THis is the third movie in the three mothers trilogy. Upon seeing this movie for the first time, I already knew that Dario Argento was/is THE MAN when it comes to horror. It is a fantastic updated sequel (and third in the trilogy) to SUSPIRIA (1977), and INFERNO (1980). It's got it all! Horrific violence and gore, occult ranting and raving, an evil monkey, Dani Filth doing vocals on one soundtrack song, a supperb soundtrack, dreamy and surreal settings, gratuitous nudity/hot chicks, madness, frightened priests, burning churches, paranormal phenomena, witches, demons, etc....... More than lives up to Argento's reputation in cinema. He is my best friend.
