An ok graphic novel, but not good enough for Shannara
Perhaps Terry Brooks really is trying to branch out in other types of media, but I think he should stick with regular books (look at what happened with Shannara the PC game). I think this graphic novel would have been much better as just a 30 page short story instead of a 160 page comic book. And, to fill 30 pages with the content would have been stretching it...it just wasn't fleshed out enough to be a Terry Brooks story, in my opinion. Unfortunately, the story was a little too unbelievable, even for fantasy in the vein of Shannara, and that is saying a lot! The illustrations also did not follow Brooks' descriptions. However, this is not his fault, since he told the artist that a gnome shouldn't have a beard...but yet, the gnome was still bearded throughout the ... Also, it must be remembered that although Terry Brooks outlined the original story, it was adapted by another writer for the graphic novel. The novel also includes an entire chapter from his upcoming work, the Wishsong of Shannara...what? You mean the Wishsong of Shannara was actually published in 1985? Then why in the world would they have included a chapter from a more than 20 year old book? It almost seemed like the writers/editors were just trying to fill pages since the actual story flies by so quickly - I honestly read the entire story part of this book in 35 minutes - 160 pages in 35 minutes means that there isn't much content to digest. In the end, I was reading it just to say that I was finished with it, and wouldn't have to pick it up again. Even though I was finished with the story, it didn't seem complete...even though I don't want sequels, there needs to be at least one since the story didn't have much of an ending at all. Bottom line: I bought this graphic novel because of the names "Terry Brooks" and "Shannara," and I bet most other people did as well. Don't waste your money on this book when you could instead get the entire Sword of Shannara Trilogy (his first 3 Shannara books), or the Heritage of Shannara (his next 4 Shannara books) for the same price. You'll get much more enjoyment out of his real books, and a MUCH better value for your dollar.

Great condition, short read
Great condition. Story very short read. Not sure if it is worth it unless you want to follow author's order of reading strictly.

BIG let down!
This story is loosely tied to the Wishsong of Shannarra but with none of the deep character involvement that Terry Brooks is so great at. a VERY short story at best. More of a story outline. I will do my best to forget that this book exists and chalk it up to even the greatest people make mistakes. I would only recomend it if you are the biggest of Brooks fans and then only so that you know all the stories and dirrections. By itself it doesn't stand or give a complete story.
