Solid movie, great effects, read the review yourself.
This is a must see movie for anyone interested in making movies/directing and or acting. Kathryn Bigelow achieves premiere status as one of the best directors in the industry. Only two females have been nominated for best director by the academy awards! Ever wanted to know what goes on during the iraqi war from the view of a humvee crew? Go inside with a crew that diffuses bombs, they have to conquer the elements (extreme heat) and hatred in the area by insurgents. This movie has political, war and life themes, the main characters have to deal with many problems that bring the viewer to the edge wanting more. You can relate to one or possibly two and maybe all three of the main characters. One doesn't care about his life or the others and takes nothing seriously, the others just ... For the rest of the movie you should watch it. I do not want to ruin it for you, below is an analysis from what it has won. The Hurt Locker is a 2008 American war thriller directed by Kathryn Bigelow. It was one of the most acclaimed films of 2009, earning awards and honors from numerous organizations, festivals and groups, including 9 Academy Award nominations. The film swept the 2010 BAFTA awards, winning best film, director, original screenplay, editing, cinematography and sound. The film follows a United States Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team during the Iraq War. The Hurt Locker opens with a quotation from War Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning, a best-selling 2002 book by New York Times war correspondent and journalist Chris Hedges: "The rush of battle is a potent and often lethal addiction, for war is a drug." Starting with its initial screening at the 2008 Venice International Film Festival, The Hurt Locker has earned an impressive list of awards and honors. It has also earned its place on more Top 10 lists than any other film of 2009. It is nominated in nine categories at the 82nd Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor, and for three Golden Globe awards. Kathryn Bigelow was awarded the 2009 Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Achievement in Feature Film for the film, the first time a female director has ever won.The film also won the award for the Best Film at the BAFTA's held on 21st February 2010; Bigelow also garnered the award for Best Director at the ceremony. The film swept most critics groups awards for best director and best picture including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Boston and Las Vegas film critics associations. The Hurt Locker also became only the fourth film to win all three major U.S. critics group prizes (NY, LA and NSFC) joining Goodfellas, Schindler's List and L.A. Confidential.

The Hurt Locker The Hurt Locker is a brilliant depiction of the intense and often tragic world of serving in the military. The film is truly gripping and features incredible performances, a powerful story and sensational direction by Kathryn Bigelow. The story follows a unit in the bomb squad division as they deal with the mental and physical tolls from the hazardous environment known as war. The plot is very engrossing and other than one minor moment of stupidity (running off in the dark?); the story feels very real thanks in due to part to the excellent writing that really develops the characters well. The characters are brought to life by stellar performances from Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie and Brian Geraghty who all of worthy of Academy attention. There are also some pleasantly ... There are also some pleasantly surprising appearances from Guy Pearce and Ralph Fiennes and both are very good in their limited time. The real star of the film however is the magnificent directing from Kathryn Bigelow; her gritty, in the action style works brilliantly for creating the tense atmosphere especially during the sniper shoot-out which kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Overall, The Hurt Locker is an outstanding piece of film. The movie has an absolutely riveting story, breathtaking action / direction and is top off with three powerhouse performances. Seriously, this is a film that you must see just to understand and obviously Bigelow & crew set out to create a film that opens your eyes to the dangers soldiers face in the line of duty. Bravo! The PQ is quite good. The style of the film is very down and dirty and the transfer recreates very well. Grain is present through-out but it never hinders the image. Detail remains strong in every scene and overall, the image captures the gritty natural of Bigelow’s vision. The audio is outstanding with a robust, dynamic and involving track. Explosions rock the sub and shootouts deliver a wicked surrounding experience. Extras are a bit of letdown with only a commentary track and single BTS, wish there was a bit more maybe on how they trained for the film . Overall, The Hurt Locker is a captivating and powerful film. Bigelow brings you straight into the intense world from these characters with fantastic direction, the writing is magnificent and most of all, the performances are all extraordinary. The disc quality is excellent with good PQ and a wicked audio track. I would highly recommend The Hurt Locker; the film is an obvious contender for awards season and deservedly so.

Fine film, not sure about all the awards.
The movie was well done, no doubt, and came my direction with a lot of hype. Was it a better film than Avatar? Yes, probably so. But all the accolades and recognition being put on this film might be a little misplaced. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed nearly every minute. However, I did feel the characters were a little weakly developed, and there were portions of the story that felt forced. The acting was excellent, and the camera work very effective, it just didn't blow me over as I had hoped.The movie was well done, no doubt, and came my direction with a lot of hype. a little slow but worth your time
I watched this because i am a fan of Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie and the price was right. I wasnt expecting much and although it is a little slow I still felt it was worth watching.

Interesting, but an overall let-down.
I'm wondering the reasoning behind this movie winning best picture, alone getting nominated. Though the Oscars along with most other popular award events seem to be political in their nominations. Big name actor, big name producer/writer/director, military and especially current issues themed. Then there's the lean towards obscure movies, which I don't mind so much. Even though I bought this movie for around $10 I feel it wasn't money well spent. For the main theme the film was about, I believe it could have been told in a more engrossing/interesting way and kept the realism. More investment in the main character and his family would have been effective, and in result the story would be more emotion provoking. There's a few scenes that were amazing, but ...
