In 1959, Los Angeles private investigator Louis Simo (Adrien Brody), is working for a client named Chester Sinclair by spying of his wife, whom he is convinced is cheating on him. He is taking pictures of her entering a building that she frequents from time to time. On a visit to his ex-wife and son, he learns that his son is very upset at the news of the recent death of George Reeves inside his Beverly Hills home of what was reported to be an apparent gunshot suicide. There is a lot that looks suspicious about this death that the cops would rather not touch. Simo, sensing an opportunity to make a name foe himself, begins investigating the case, and right off notes many apparent conflicts with the official version of Reeve's death. He is also concerned particularly now when his son seems ... Catching the eye of a beautiful young woman, they spend the night together and Reeves finds out that she is Toni Mannix, wife of the General Manager of MGM. Frightened that such an incident could permanently cripple his career, he asks Toni why she hadn't told him who she was. She admitted that she and her husband had an open marriage, and a long term affair began. She showers him in gifts, cars, house, jewelry. Reeves also gets the starring role in TV's Superman series at this time. Fame and a steady income come his way from the series, but his prompting for her to help him land more serious acting roles never happens. Years pass, and Toni ages, and Reeves tires of being a "Kept Man". When he meets a much younger woman in New York, Leonore Lemmon, and leaves Toni, and she is broken-hearted and furious. Toni's husband, Eddie, is mad at her mistreatment by Reeves. Simo suspects that Leonore Lemmon might have accidentally shot Reeves during an argument. He imagines just how a scenario might have played out. Later when Simo arrives back home, he finds thugs who work for Eddie waiting for him to beat him up to scare him off the case. Now Simo believes that Eddie had Reeves murdered, and in his mind tries to figure another scenario of just what might have happened. Simo also learns that Chester Sinclair murdered his wife, impatient of waiting for Simo to find evidence. Later, Simo visits Reeves' manager, Arthur Weissman. Weissman speaks highly of Reeves and his charm. He gives Simo a home movie Reeves had shot in hopes of promoting wrestling work. What Simo sees in the film suggests to him a sadness in Reeves, a weariness and humiliation with where his life has led. Simo's final imagined variation on Reeves' death concludes with the actor shooting himself. This is the most vivid of the three scenarios, with Simo imagining himself standing in the corner of the upstairs bedroom, and even making eye contact briefly with the weary Reeves. ach of the scenes imagined by Simo begins with Reeves playing guitar and singing "Aquellos Ojos Verdes (Green Eyes)" in Spanish for his house guests. Reeves himself was fluent in Spanish. The Spanish lyrics of the popular song lament a love that can never be fulfilled. After each of the three imagined renditions, Reeves says goodnight to his guests, then retires to his bedroom upstairs, just before the gunshot. In an effort to re-evaluate his life. Simo watches another home movie, this one of himself and Laurie and their son in happier days. This is a good movie, but it is sad and somewhat depressing.

The HIDDEN side of Superman~ 3 STARS~
PLOT: 1950S SUPERMAN George Reeves bio~ about the hidden and tragic death of THE superman actor~ 1950S HOLLYWOOD~ USA~ George Reeves is a handsome man looking for a big break in movies~ but TV is calling him~ when he tests for a Superman TV series~ this movie is very well done~ Ben Affleck~ is VG as Superman who thinks he deserves stardom ~ he is picked up in a high class hollywood haunt by Diane Lane (Mrs. Mannix) who soon has him as her boy toylover~ complete with a HOUSE she buys him~ this movie is BASED on fact with some embellishment along the way to keep it interesting~ we see the break up of the HOLLYWOOD studios and the new medium of TV~ REEVES believes he is simply too good to lower his actor standards to be a KID hero~ (HE overlooks his own low standards at his Gigilo status)~ ... LEMON~ the married fiance Reeves dumps Mrs. Mannix for~ is worth the watch to the end to see this BRASH lady~ I GIVE IT 3 STARS FOR EXCELLENT ACTING FROM BEN AFFLECK AS REEVES AND ADRIEN BRODY AND ESPECIALLY DIANE LANE` but the confusing flashbacks~ leave it hard to follow~ AND the end IS disappointing~thus the 3 STARS inspite of a stellar cast.

Great nostalgic Hollywoof crime drama ....
Whether you are a SUPERMAN television series fan or not, this great, nostalgic Hollywood crime drama with elements of Hollywood's Golden Era, and fits alongside more contemporary titles such as THE PLAYER, MULHOLLAND FALLS and LA CONFIDENTIAL, and might fit well as a double feature with Billy Wilder's SUNSET BLVD., or a raymond Chandler classic like THE BIG SLEEP (Bogart/Bacall) & MURDER MY SWEET (Farewell my Lovely starring Dick Powell & Claire Trevor) just as well.Whether you are a SUPERMAN television series fan or not, this great, nostalgic Hollywood crime drama with elements of Hollywood's Golden Era, and fits alongside more contemporary titles such as THE PLAYER, MULHOLLAND FALLS and LA CONFIDENTIAL, and might fit well as a double feature with Billy Wilder's SUNSET BLVD., or a raymond Chandler classic like THE BIG SLEEP (Bogart/Bacall) & MURDER MY SWEET (Farewell my Lovely starring Dick Powell & Claire Trevor) just as well.

Superman not so super
This movie is based on George Reeves, the original Superman, actor's life. I was very anxious to see it but was disappointed. The acting was adequate but the movie was drawn out. I wanted to see more about Reeves and less about the detective who looked into his life. Because of that, the movie was too long. It gives you three scenarios of Reeves death and I'm still not convinced what the truth is. I guess you need to form yur own opinion. It does however teach you a lot about Reeves as the man. I'm not sure I liked him a whole lot but I understood why he was the was he was. I would see the movie but I would not buy it because once I've seen it, I have no desire to watch it again. It's not that memorable or thrilling. I'm not even sure how factual it was.This movie is based on George Reeves, the original Superman, actor's life.
