LG BH200 Super Blu
Many people that started with HD DVD when they first came out find themselves stuck with a library of discs that won't play on a Blu Ray player. The LG BH200 is one of the best players I've ever tested and the only one so far that plays HDDVD, Blu Ray, DVD and just about any other format of disc that you can put into it. The picture is fantastic as is the LG support for this discontinued player. The machine can get a software upgrade over the Internet by simply plugging in an ethernet cable and connecting to the Internet. You can also download an upgrade onto a USB stick and perform the upgrade from the USB port that is built into the machine. I've compared the picture on the LG BH200 with the PS3, Sony Blu Ray players as well as others like Toshiba. I own several HD players in both Blu ... Many of these players are not region coded which means that they will play any disc from any part of the world on your TV. Can't find something coded for region 1 (U.S.)? Just buy any DVD, HDDVD or Blu Ray DVD from any country and the LG BH200 will play it. I don't think that anyone is currently manufacturing a player that will handle HDDVD and Blu Ray. I have two of these players installed and I save money by buying inexpensive HDDVD's of many movies that came out years ago. The new releases that are on Blu Ray play perfectly. I still try new Blu Ray movies on the PS3 and then compare the picture with the output of the BH200. My TV is a Sony Bravia which has one of the best pictures I've seen. Some movies look grainy on the PS3 but are perfect on the LG BH200. If you have HDDVD's and need a player that will handle them as well as the Blu Ray format, try to get your hands on one of these LG BH200's. You'll be very satisfied with the performance, features and picture of this machine. It also plays various multimedia sources like digital pictures and movies from your camera or camcorder.

If you're one of the million or so like me who who got caught between Sony and Toshiba in the HD Media wars, this might be a longer term solution for you especially if you have a large HD DVD collection or are planning on buying some (They are going VERY cheap on the Net). Because I take lots of HD Video I wanted a bluray player, not horribly expensive but I didn't want to have two HD players in the rack. The BH200 solves that problem -it plays 'em all. This discontinued model was only on the market for short time just before Toshiba threw in the towel. It was quite expensive at the time. Now for a couple of hundred bucks you can have an almost new one. It also does an excellent job of upconverting your DVD's to 1080 format. If you're not in to used equipment, there's another ... This unit not only plays all formats, it also RECORDS Blu-Ray discs - a plus for those of us wanting the capability to preserve our HD home movies on HD media! Of course, if you don't like watching movies on your PC monitor or don't have your PC hooked up to your home theater, this may not be for you. At any rate, the BH200 is highly recommended.

For those with HD-DVD and Blu-Ray, this is the unit
I jumped early into high definition, and own a substantial number of both disc types. I started with that Xbox player for HD-DVD, but disliked the noise of the Xbox fan while watching movies. I also had an early high end Sony BD player with no network port. If you use BD's, you know how often you had to update those, especially during thie first year. I got one of these as soon as I saw it, and it has been great (I even bought a second one here on ebay I was so happy). It plays everything, updates painlessly, and even plays mp4s and such. Now if you are just getting into BD, there are newer units that have built in WiFi and Netflix, and you should really be looking at those instead, but if you need something to play your HD-DVDs, upconvert your regular DVDs, and plays Blu-Ray, I ... Very Good Player: NOT GREAT PLAYER:
Ok..i talked about this player's "arch nemesis" The Samsung BD-UP5000 (smiling)..but i'll talk about the LG player..i'll give specs..then i'll give my thoughts..ok.. The player has basically the same as it's competition..7.1 audio with the latest firmware update (Firmware 100330A)..this was released in 2010..& to my knowledge..it's the last update..(I went to the LG site & this was it)..the GOOD is besides the 7.1..it also allows the ILLUSIVE 1080p/24 on your player..NOW!!?? I didn't see this (1080p/24) at all on MY LG player..but who knows..some Blurays wouldn't spit out 1080p/24..so I could be wrong..the rest is like the Samsung counterpart..Component plugs..Composite plugs..HDMI..Digital (optical) outs..& Ethernet connection..which you could try as far as getting the latest ...
