Worth the Wait
I'm not going to spend a lot of time talking about the things that have made The Prisoner a personal favorite for decades, because they're the same things all Prisoner fans admire: original premise, thought-provoking scripts, unique visual look...and, of course, the intensity and integrity of Patrick McGoohan's performance. I've always intended to add The Prisoner to my video library. And over the years, I've had my opportunities. VHS. Then DVD. But there was something, every time, that kept me from clicking the "add to cart" button. That something? The viewer reviews. Over and over, I kept hearing about dull, faded colors. Muddy sound. An experience that didn't match up with the memories of the show's powerful immediacy. And so I passed on the VHS, and didn't give in to the temptation ... I'm not going to spend a lot of time talking about the things that have made The Prisoner a personal favorite for decades, because they're the same things all Prisoner fans admire: original premise, thought-provoking scripts, unique visual look...and, of course, the intensity and integrity of Patrick McGoohan's performance. But there was something, every time, that kept me from clicking the "add to cart" button. That something? The viewer reviews. Over and over, I kept hearing about dull, faded colors. Muddy sound. An experience that didn't match up with the memories of the show's powerful immediacy. And so I passed on the VHS, and didn't give in to the temptation of the DVD. Be patient, I told myself. One day they'll issue a version that's faithful to the original. Well...now they have. This blu-ray edition is absolutely stunning. The colors are breathtakingly rich - truly cinematic. The picture is amazingly sharp, but also has the rich dimensionality only vintage lenses can deliver (OK, they weren't "vintage" when the show was made). The sound is clear, and I'm confident that it would be even better if my home theater facilities were more sophisticated. All in all, The Prisoner on blu-ray is a remarkable experience. If you didn't know better, you'd swear these episodes were recorded last month - they're that fresh and vivid. So I urge all fans to purchase this set - even if you already own it in another format. You won't be surprised to discover that everything you've always loved about the show is there; but you'll be shocked at the immersive vibrancy of the presentation. And if you've never seen a moment of the Prisoner, but you're curious what all the fuss is about: don't even consider any of the other available formats. This is the one you want.

Much better than expected
I've been a fan of "The Prisoner" since it came out in 1967. Although totally unrealistic, the series is entertaining, engaging and very creative. I bought this blu-ray set hoping the image quality would be better than the DVD. I was not disappointed. The image is astounding. Being a series from the 60s, that was watched mostly on small black and white TV sets, I didn't expect the picture quality to be this good. Even more impressive, this good on large screen TVs. It's just incredible. Yes, I know, it has been restored, but you couldn't get this level of quality if it wasn't in the original source material. The new remastered 5.1 sound is also quite impressive.I've been a fan of "The Prisoner" since it came out in 1967. Great classic show, fantastic Blu-ray transfer
Long time Prisoner fan and saw the Blu-ray edition for the first time at the Prisoner convention in Wales. This is one of the best digital transfers from the original to high-def I have ever seen - and this being a TV show from the late 60s. The images and colors are truly vivid and make the surreal world of the village seem even spookier. And yet it retains that old television look too. And that's just the Blu-ray part. Not much more to say about one of the most original and unusual shows of all time - a real classic that has aged well. Beyond the themes of freedom, free thought, one's place in society, and the notion of a big brother surveillance state, the show was prophetic technology wise. Ubiquitous cameras to keep tabs on everyone (including inside tv screens), wireless ... Long time Prisoner fan and saw the Blu-ray edition for the first time at the Prisoner convention in Wales. Rediscover the Prisoner, you'll be glad you did.
I am not sure about most of you, but when you watch something truly original that makes you think, it opens up so much more to the experience. The Prisoner does this in spades. While some episodes may leave you scratching your head, most leave you with wanting more. The show is a allegory, for many things. Life, society, etc. The concepts are modern as today. Buying this blu-ray version you get to enjoy it in its full HD glory.Which cleans up the grainy prior release. While certain commentaries are a waste ("the pink prisoner", & "you make sure it fits") because they are dull and do not help anyone understand more about the series. The "Don't knock yourself out" documentary is quite enlightening. Although we do miss having the Prisoner companion from being on here like the prior set. In ... I am not sure about most of you, but when you watch something truly original that makes you think, it opens up so much more to the experience. The Prisoner does this in spades. THE PRISONER IS THE BEST EVER
Fast shipping and this Blu Ray is amazing. Patrick McGoohan is so engaging and talented and the entire show has you wondering how it will wrap up. And the ending leaves you wanting more. Find this. Watch it. You will love it.
