The Sony 16mm-35mm f/2.8 ZA SSM Vario-Sonnar T* zoom lens features an optical design and anti-flare T-Star coating by Carl Zeiss. Specifically designed for Sony A-mount full frame digital SLR cameras, these lenses are also compatible with cameras in the Minolta Maximum series. It is a professional-grade, super wide angle lens that gives photographers complete control over their shots, allowing them to take clearer, more beautiful photos than possible with a basic lens kit. With a maximum aperture of f/22, with f/2.8 throughout the zoom range, the Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 ZA SSM Vario-Sonnar T* lens is capable of a fast shutter speed and shoots beautifully even in low light conditions. It covers a 2.2x zoom range within a 16mm to 35mm range of focal lengths and has a maximum focal length of 35mm, which becomes 24-52.5mm when the lens is paired with a DSLR camera that has an APS-C sized sensor. The three aspheric elements within the Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 ZA SSM Vario-Sonnar T* lens provide more precision and correct for distortion, resulting in sharper photos and higher image quality even at a distance. The Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 ZA SSM Vario-Sonnar T* lens is equipped with nine circular aperture blades, a filter with a 77mm diameter, and a Super Sonic Wave Motor (SSM) that allows for high torque at low speeds, leading to smooth automatic focusing. It has an integrated manual and auto focus. For better focus control, you have the option of a Focus Mode switch and a Focus Hold button, along with an Auto Clutch to stop the manual focus ring from rotating. The glass elements within the Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 ZA SSM Vario-Sonnar T* lenses offer extra-low dispersion (ED) and super extra-low dispersion (Super ED), which help reduce chromatic aberrations. They reduce flare and ghosting in the photos that you take, while the wide angle zoom increases the image stabilization. Accessories include a front lens cap and a rear lens cap, as well as a pouch for storing the lens.     Great Lens for the Young and Strong.

    I have wanted a Zeiss 16-35mm A mount lens for quite sometime, but the price was just too high. So having found one for below $600.00 I bought it. Image quality is very good, focus is fast and build quality is great. Down side the weight!! I currently have a Konika - Minolta 17-35mm which I have had for years. I does a great job with a far amount of barreling, which you can correct in post. The Zeiss does not have the excessive barreling but the weight of this lens is Crazy Heavy. You would not want to carry this lens through Europe photographing churches, castles and/or museums. it is just too heavy. I have it mounted to a Sony A99 with extended battery grip and the lens and camera weight 7 plus lbs.

    Sony 16-35mm F2.8 must have lens!

    I am using the 16-35 with my Sony A-99 and the images it takes are incredible. One advantage of using a very wide angle lens is almost everything is in focus. You can stay really close to your subject and it has very quick focusing. It is built like a tank and very heavy - weight is not a problem with the quality it provides. Super sharp, amazing colors and internal zoom are all great attributes. Love how you can get close to a foreground subject and still keep background in focus. Definitely my favorite lens!

    Most economic solution with covering this 16-35mm focal length. Probably the darkest best kept secret with using the Sony A7/A9 series One does not need to spend the money on the GM version as that becomes 3x the cost It is slightly more bulky because you have to use a Sony LA-EA4 adapter to make it work but the quality and the speed of focus is near the same

    An outstanding lens.

    I haven't used it that much yet, but this is an outstanding lens. Very sharp on my Sony a99. Only drawback of which I am aware is that it's heavy and flares whenever there's a bright light source anywhere near. For more technical details look at the reviews for this lens on Dyxum.com.

    Beautiful pictures...but expensive.

    Thus is by far the most expensive lens that I now own. The pictures are great, and width is perfect. Highly recommended, but will hurt the wallet.
