The Panasonic DMR-BS850 is a Blu-ray burner that works with Freesat. The Panasonic DMR-BS850 Blu-ray recorder allows an individual to both record and edit high-definition video in a variety of formats. This Blu-ray recorder uses MPEG-4 compression and features a full editing suite. The Panasonic DMR-BS850 Blu-ray recorder has a 500 GB hard drive for data storage. Storing programs on the hard drive is made easy by a very user-friendly interface on the Panasonic DMR-BS850 Blu-ray recorder. In addition to internal storage, users can use this Blu-ray recorder to permanently archive data by burning the programs onto Blu-ray discs, which the user can then watch any time. Using two Freesat tuners, users can record two programs from a paid satellite network at once on this Panasonic Blu-ray recorder. This Panasonic Blu-ray recorder allows the user not only to record two programs at once, but also to watch one program on Freesat while the a second program is recording.

Fantastic piece of kit
Excellent products This is my second machine, and I would not be without it. Panasonic are fantastic machines, it is a shame that Panasonic have not kept up making these machine. Once you get to grips with the remote it is very easy to use. The hard drive is 500gb which is plenty big enough to store films and programmes. The Blu-ray is superb. The added bonus with this machine is that it is multi region, so can play discs from around the world.Excellent products This is my second machine, and I would not be without it. I still have to record in SD at normal speed. There is high speed but only for HD that you cannot get.
No hd tv channels in Canada to record

Last remaining Freesat/Bluray recorder with HDD
I bought my Freesat/Blueray recorder because I already had freesat with DVD wanted a freesat box for the bedroom and decided the try for one with a bluray recorder. I spent a long time finding the Panasonic one as most sites were out of stock. Eventually tracked down one which parcel force promptly damaged whilst delivering it.The suppliers remarkably found one in Scotland which I received intact. Panasonic were the only ones making such a model and now they no longer produce it due to cost. USE THIS KIT AND YOU ARE OFF ON A VOYAGE OF DISCOVERY TO WONDERLAND
HAVING USED AN EARLIER DVD RECORDER EXTENSIVELY (DMR-EH50) I BOUGHT A DMR-BS850 12 MONTHS AGO. I WAS IMPRESSED ENOUGH WITH IT TO SEARCH FOR ANOTHER FOR THE SET UP IN MY SON'S BEDROOM 12 MONTHS LATER. LIKE ITS PREDECESSOR IT PERFORMS BRILLIANTLY AND IS EASY TO WORK WITH SINCE A LOT OF THE OPERATIONS ARE SO SIMILAR TO THE OLD DVD RECORDER (DMR-EH50)THAT I HAVE USED SO MUCH. WHEN YOU CHANGE FUNCTIONS ADMITTEDLY THERE IS A SLIGHT TIME DELAY WHICH THE HYPERCRITICAL DILLETTANTE MAY FIND OFF PUTTING BUT EXERCISE A LITTLE PATIENCE AND IT BEHAVES IMPECCABLY. I HAVE NOT DONE A LOT OF RECORDING USING THE BUILT IN FREESAT FACILITY BUT ENOUGH TO KNOW THAT IT IS FAIRLY STRAIGHT FORWARD TO RECORD MANUALLY AND NOT MUCH MORE DIFFICULT TO SET UP USING THE TIMER FACILITIES, EASIER IN SOME WAYS THAN THE OLD ... THE ONLY PROBLEM YOU MAY ENCOUNTER DOING THIS IS TO FIND YOU ARE SHORT OF AERIAL FEEDS. YOU MUST HAVE EACH MACHINE SET UP WITH ITS OWN DUAL CABLE FROM THE SATELLITE DISH WHICH IN MY CASE IS EIGHT, TWO FOR EACH OF THE FOUR RECEIVERS! IT MAY SEEM CUMBERSOME BUT YOU ARE ENABLED TO RECORD EIGHT CHANNELS AT ONCE. BEWARE YOU CANNOT USE AN AERIAL CABLE SPLITTER BECAUSE A SATELLITE SIGNAL WILL NOT GET THROUGH ALTHOUGH YOU CAN SPLIT A FREEVIEW CABLE I BELIEVE. YOU DO HAVE TO CHECK YOUR INPUTS TO BE SURE YOU ARE PLAYING BACK THE CORRECT COMPONENT WHEN USING OTHER EQUIPMENT. EDITING RECORDINGS IS GOOD AND THE MORE YOU PLAY WITH IT THE MORE YOU WILL FIND YOU CAN DO WITH IT. I HAVE DONE MOST OF MY WORK ON STANDARD PLAY SIMPLY BECAUSE IN MY OPINION THERE IS NOT YET REALLY ENOUGH GOOD HIGH DEFINITION MATERIAL AVAILABLE (UNLESS YOU PAY THROUGH NOSE FOR IT FROM SKY) AND BLURAY DISCS ARE RELATIVELY EXPESIVE THOUGH THIS WILL CHANGE IN TIME. PICTURE QUALITY IS EXCELLENT AND SOUND ON THE MUSIC CHANNELS IS PHENOMINAL IF YOUR SOUND EQUIPMENT IS UP TO IT. IF SOUND QUALITY IS IMPORTANT TO YOU THEN THIS KIT WILL GIVE YOU EXCELLENT RETURNS FOR INVESTMENT IN A HIFI AMPLIFIER AND SPEAKER SYSTEM. ONE SLIGHT CRITICISM I HAVE IS THAT WHEN EDITING CHAPTERS YOU CANNOT CHASE BACK ACROSS TITLE BOUNDARIES AS EASILY AS WHEN GOING FORWARD. IF YOU OVERSHOOT YOU HAVE TO ENTER PLAY MODE THEN REVERSE OVER THE TITLE JOIN AND RE-ENGAGE FORWARD TO GET TO THE END OF A TITLE SECTION. CREATING A CHAPTER DOES NOT HAVE THIS LIMITATION. THE DMR-BS850 MODEL HAS NOW BEEN SUPERCEDED BY AN UPDATED MODEL BUT IF YOU CAN STILL FIND ONE OF THESE BEING SOLD OFF AT A DISCOUNT (TO MAKE ROOM FOR NEW STOCK) THEN MY ADVICE IS TO GRAB IT. IT WILL BE WELL WORTH THE SEARCH. BOB W.
