Product Information

Molly is a lively, lovable schemer and dreamer growing up in 1944. Her stories describe her life on the home front during World War Two. Molly doesn't like many of the changes the war has brought, and she especially misses her father, who is away caring for wounded soldiers. But Molly learns the importance of getting along and pulling together -- just as her country has to do to win the war The perfect way to learn about Molly is with a complete set of her six books in an attractive slipcase.

  • Molly by Valerie Tripp

All the American Girl books are wonderful teaching tools. I especially like the Molly books as they so closely mirror my life as a little girl. Though I was born during the Korean Conflict (they never called it a war) socially things were so similar. My Dad was in Korea, Molly's Dad was a doctor in England during World War 2. We both had to do without our father's for a time. The Molly stories tell how families, especially young girls, learned to cope with the problems of growing up, friendships and challenges. These books are great examples for young people even today. I read them with my grandchildren, boys and girls and we all enjoy and discuss them and relate them to our lives today. It is fun to have them ask questions about my youth and Molly's to see the similarities and the ...

  • American Girl - Molly

In the first book or two, I wasn't sure that I was going to like Molly as much as I did Samantha, Felecity, Kirsten, and especially Kit. In reading those other series aloud to my granddaughter (over the phone) I could tell that she was totally captured by each of those other characters right off the bat. But with Molly, I, personally, was wondering if maybe Molly was a little bit grumpy and even selfish. However in later books, we both came around to loving Molly. The series helped my granddaughter get a glimpse of just how aweful it would be if your daddy was gone far away like that for a long time. The moment where Dad returned and no one was home but Molly was very climactic and wonderful to be reading aloud. Enjoy.

  • Molly, An American Girl Series

These books are full of humor, sincerity and life. I love all the American Girl books. I read them to my girls in hope that they will gain an understanding of history and how girls in the past forcibly had to deal with war, misfortune and hardship. The characters in all cases were ordinary girls dealing with extraordinary changes in their respective society--how they cope and grow and learn to become responsible ladies. I read these books in second grade and now my girls are reading (or being read)them--I hope generations to come will enjoy these to.
