A better-than-average WWII flagwaver, CAPTAIN OF THE CLOUDS is told from the point of view of the Canadians. So much more than a moral lesson film.
Historical adventure, romance, comedy, suspense, tested morals, defeat, deception, reconciliation, a bitter-sweet happy ending. This movie is part of our North American history and spiritual heritage. Many films portray the afterlife and moral choices leading up to "passing-over-to-the-other-side", but "Captains of the Clouds" is so much more: A bit on the theatrical side, but eye candy for pilots and aeronautics history buffs and still a shinning example of a moral lesson film that is also an entertaining portrayal of Canada's historical WWII involvement on the personal level if only for the sincere performance by James Cagney. Captains of the Clouds
An historical video. I haven't seen a James Cagney film in many years. It's mainly a guy video but there is something there for the ladies also. If you are fond of old propller driven aircraft this is a must! This is a special video for me because my great great uncle, William Avery Bishop "Billy Bishop" had a part in it. Billy Bishop "The Kid Who Couldn't Miss" was a R.C.A.F. WWI flying ace. Good buy! Regards, BillAn historical video. I haven't seen a James Cagney film in many years. vintage early WW2 aviation
This movie is a historical document. Never again will such an assembly of early WW2 aircraft be filmed in such gorgeous color--Fleets, Harvards, Avro Ansons, Lockheed Hudsons, a "german" Hurricane and a range of vintage floatplanes. Billy Bishop himself, the WW1 ace, makes an appearance and speech at the passing out parade-- Canadian nostalgia!The movie plot comes extra! The only aviation WW2 movie to compare with it in the quality of the color is Dive Bomber.This movie is a historical document. A schmaltzy but fun look at Canada early in WWII
This is a fun movie for nostalgia buffs and especially for anyone who wants to see what the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan looked like in full colour! The acting is pretty cheesy and the special effects are pretty cartoonish looking but overlooking that you will find an interesting snapshot of what Canada looked like in 1941. I bought this movie primarily to see the aerodromes and facilities of the BCATP in all their glory!This is a fun movie for nostalgia buffs and especially for anyone who wants to see what the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan looked like in full colour!
