Beading in the Native American Tradition by David Dean
I highly recommend this book if you have an interest in beadwork in general, in Native American crafts, and, of course, especially if your interest is Native American beadwork, in specific. It's great for the person new to the subject, or continuing to learn more; if you're already expert, then chances are you know the author and already have a copy. It covers the subject at "just the depth I wanted", more than an overview, but not bogged down with academic references and scholarly discussions. It is well-written, well-illustrated, and Mr. Dean explains the techniques (and the history, and the current state of Native American beaders and beadwork) in simple, straight-forward, easy-to-understand language. Why did I buy this? I had attended a meeting at which the author, David Dean, was a ... I took the opportunity to obtain a copy, and I'm certainly glad I did.

I loved the style and photo instruction in Beading Native Tradition!
I bought this book because I wanted to look at some original style instruction on how Native Indian bead work was/is done. It explains very well how to actually do the needle work. I also loved the photography in the book and the examples of traditional pieces that people had in their collections. I wish he also had an instructional book about colors and patterns and specifically why certain tribes did them the way they did. He did touch on color and tribe usage but I'd like to know more in depth history!I bought this book because I wanted to look at some original style instruction on how Native Indian bead work was/is done.
