Emancipation!!!
I bought this CD because my extensive Prince CD collection was stolen out my car and needed to replace them at reasonable prices. Emancipation is a work of art. It is one of those collections that is a very true and accurate portrayal of an artist at a particular time in her/his life. Prince was finally free of the "chains" that most artists would kill for -- the artistic chains that Warner Bros. was so "progressive" to offer a young Prince way back when. The contract that Prince originally signed with Warner was indeed "good" at the time, offering him artistic freedom. However, it did not give him ownership of the music that he created. Where's the beef? That's the beef! How can you not own something that came out of your heart and soul? Anyway, to the CD, it is quite simply ... I like "Jam of the Year" musically, though a little indulgent lyrically. The two following songs however blew my mind the first time I heard them (Right Back Here In Your Arms, Somebody's Somebody) -- truly excellent. The rest of Disc 1 is quite good, too, with "Betcha By Golly Wow" taken from the Stylistics is the first time that I know of that Prince ever covered anyone on a recording and the rest just very fun. Disc 2 is great also with "Sex in the Summer" with the baby's ultrasound heartbeat and the inspiring songs of "Soul Sanctuary" "Curious Child" and "Dreamin' About You" -- very beautiful. On Disc 3, my favorites are "Face Down" bite-you-back edgy track with a great beat, "La, La, La" which is a beautiful rendition, "Style" which is quite fun, and "The Love We Make" which is beautifully inspiring. Overall, if I were trapped on a desert island and I had only one CD that I could play, it would be Emancipation.

3 1/2 STARS!!!!! There is a great album in there somewhere!!!!
Emancipation isn't a bad album it's just entirely too long. Three CD's at exactly one hour a piece makes it more of a collection than a cohesive work of music. My suggestion is to buy it and make a single disc version of the songs you enjoy. I have never had anyone tell me that they enjoy every song on Emancipation. There are too many styles of music, cover tracks, subject matters, and not enough cohesion. It feels more like a B side collection than an album. The last disc is worth the total cost but it also has 2 of the worst songs on the 3 disc set. The first disc and the third disc hold most of the goodies. Disc Two isn't bad ........ It just isn't well fitting in this 3 disc set. Sadly this album (set) proves too much of a good thing is possible....... Best Tracks- Jam Of The ... Great album!
Love this album, it seems like his most honest work ever. It seems to be the most peaceful work he has ever done. Although I love his hits, album wise this is his best one. A great mix of soul, spiritual, love and celebration.

Emancipation by Prince
I am a big fan, but I liked this set for its variety of style and moods. Something for everyone, dance, urban, pop, rock, and slow jams. Some smokin' hot guitar work. No big hits, but a solid 3 CD set!

Emancipation
Until I divorced, and my ex kept all of my music, I owned everything Prince released. This has always been a favorite, and I'm giddy to score it for a phenomenal price. Sure, it's long, but nobody is holding a gun to your head, demanding you listen to all 3 discs back to back! Prince allows us a glimpse into his soul, and shows a lot of diversity in his musical genius with this collection of tunes.Until I divorced, and my ex kept all of my music, I owned everything Prince released.
