This is a specific show, about a very short battle in WWII, worth viewing
I bought this DVD because I am a lifelong "student of history", as my late father, a WWII vet. There were 3 boys in the family and each served in the Navy in WWII. My father was in the air; his next older brother was a submariner; the oldest brother was a surface sailor. My husband's late father also served during WWII aboard minesweepers. My husband served a career of 21.5 years in the Navy beginning when Vietnam was "winding down." And, I followed in my father's and uncles' "footsteps" and enlisted in the Navy in the Post-Vietnam era. I was a Hospital CorpsWAVE. Many of my Corps school classmates served as Corpsmen for Marine companies. One of the men who raised the second flag on Mt Sirabachi was a Hospital Corpsman, "Doc" Bradley, whom I regard as an "older brother". I learned things ... There were lots of folks who added what they knew about Iwo Jima in this show, most of whom were either there or authored some reputable book about WWII. Somewhere in this show, the statistic of something like 1,500 WWII vets die daily in US. Sadly, my husband and I are kin to 4 now. I didn't really know how specific this show was going to be when I bought it. Iwo Jima was really a short battle, but one that took the lives of many thousands of good men, most of them young (under the age of 21), with a lifetime of promise, which was cut-short by war. I am not disappointed at all that I bought this. I am only disappointed that my father and father-in-law weren't alive still to watch it with me. It's worth twice the selling price on ebay, make that 4 times!

Heroes of Iwo Jima - Must See!
This documentary is one of the best that I've seen on the subject. While still discussing the Battle of Iwo Jima, it focuses more on the first and second flag raisings on Mt. Suribachi. It also includes many interviews with the families of the flag raisers (i.e. James Bradley, Ed Block Jr., Maurine Mitchell, Pauline Gagnon, etc.) as well as an incredibly rare interview with John H. "Doc" Bradley, the Navy Corpman who was one of the six men to raise the second flag on Mr. Suribachi. A excellent addition to anyone's collection whether history buff or not!This documentary is one of the best that I've seen on the subject. Awesome, powerful DVD. Good mix of facts and the story. The interviews with veterans of this battle added greatly. Faces of the people add reality and emotion to our history. If you would like to watch another good DVD about the Marines in the South Pacific (including a significant segment on Iwo), get "Our Time in Hell" narrated by Lee Marvin. My father, who fought in Iwo, found that DVD accurate and well done.Awesome, powerful DVD. Good mix of facts and the story. The interviews with veterans of this battle added greatly. Heroes of Iwo Jima; was a very emotional recounting of the actions on Iwo Jima. I guess you had to live a part of it to come to my conclusion... my Dad was in the Marines stationed on several of the islands that were hopped on their way to japan. I can only tell you the feeling I got when I interviewed my own Dad about his stint in the Marines a few years ago. And now he is gone to be one of the Guards on Heavens streets.Heroes of Iwo Jima; was a very emotional recounting of the actions on Iwo Jima.
