Product Information

A young English colonial is sent to the jungles of the Sarawalk during the 1930s. Inside this steamy jungle the officer meets with a beautiful native (Jessica Alba) who is assigned to teach the native language to him. The Sleeping Dictionary
In the rainforests of Boreno in the 1930s, English officer John Truscott accepts a position to colonize the native population of Sarawak at the request of the British government. In following with the native tradition, he is given the services of a servant, Selima. A position that British officers refer to as a "sleeping dictionary," she is a concubine to share his bed and teach him the local language. The tradition forbids romantic entanglements, so the relationship is watched over by superior officer Henry Bullard and his wife, Aggie. When Selima and John fall madly in love, they enrage both the colonizers and the colonized. The Sleeping Dictionary
I thought this was an excellent love story. Jessica Alba was gorgeous in costume, ans quite surprisingly was very good in her role at such a young point in her career.This film was shot in Malaysia; so the sceneray was beautiful. The acting was good all the way around; especially the native people they played their roles beautfully. Bob Hoskins was also very good as the man in charge. A surprisingly good movie. I would recomend it.I thought this was an excellent love story. Excellent MOVIE~"The Sleeping Ditionary" 5 STARS!
I saw a 3/4 of the movie on a cruise to Jamaica, but had to leave for dinner. I couldn't wait to return from cruise.....so I could purchase movie and find out "HOW DID IT END???????" The movie was filmed on location. It was such an interesting Topic, I wondered if there actually WERE Sleeping Dictionaries back in "the day"! Jessica Alba did a great job in this part......considering alot of people think she "Cannot Act". This part was PERFECT for her. Bob Hoskins part was great! It was an informative, fairly erotic, well acted movie. I recommended it to my 23 year old daughter (who NEVER sits through a whole movie). WE watched it........and she enjoyed it so much that when she went to visit my 22 year old daughter at college (SHE is a total Movie Buff like me)....they rented it, ... sleeping dictionary review

It is a very good movie and it has a young Jessica alba playing a sassy lil island girl . If you're a fan of hers then you'll love this film
