    Great Book

    If you are interested early Renaissance history and Greek philosophy but you still want an enjoyable read, this is the book for you. It is about the rediscovery of the Roman writer Lucretius's great poem On the Nature of Things, made by an unemployed papal scribe (unemployed because the pope was unfornately arrested and imprisoned ). With time on his hands the indefatigable Poggio Bracciolino indulged his passion to search out lost classical manuscripts. He found one of the greatest , the famous celebration of Epicurean philospy. Greenblatt's tale of the search and then influence of this masterpiece on the modern worl is told with clarity and wit.
