Imaginative theology and a bigger-than-usual budget make Kevin Smith's (CHASING AMY, CLERKS) fourth film a kind of post-Catholic fantasy that only a comic-book enthusiast of his caliber could dream up. It concerns banished angels, Loki (Matt Damon) and Bartleby (Ben Affleck) who, after a few millennia in Wisconsin, discover a loophole in Catholic doctrine that would allow them back into heaven--but prove the fallibility of God and destroy the universe. As they make their way to New Jersey to receive a plenary indulgence, God dispatches a seraphim (Alan Rickman) to recruit lapsed-Catholic Bethany (Linda Fiorentino) to stop the angels. She finds help in muses, prophets (Jay and Silent Bob), and the forgotten 13th apostle, Rufus (Chris Rock). Before long, all hell breaks loose (literally), and God (Alanis Morrisette) has to put in an appearance of her own. Smith's controversial (and very funny) film is powered by his trademark dialogue, ripe with observations on pop culture, religion, and bodily functions.

Yet another brilliant Kevin Smith film.
With an impressive cast (Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Chris Rock, George Carlin, Alanis Morissette, Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes and more), this is a must-see. A hilarious parody of Catholic mythology, two rather malicious angels are kicked out of Heaven and are wreaking havoc on humanity down on Earth. Doing all of this, they discover a loophole that can get them back into Heaven, and their sins forgiven and forgotten. An abortion clinic worker is summoned by a Seraph in her sleep to prevent Loki (Damon) and Bartelby (Affleck) from walking through an archway, which is the entrance to Heaven. While getting attacked one late evening, she encounters two more prophets, Jay and Silent Bob, who save her life and accompany her on her road trip to this mysterious church. Dogma is your new I'll be damned comedy of dark context. Amazing angel construction by these costumers and the actors who wore them.
It heklps to be familiar with Catholic or Christian dogma as you wade in. The portrayal of Megatron by Alan Rickman and Brad Pitt as Loki gives a clue to the quality of this as a new "cult classic" cinema to share with your inner circle of doubters.

Hard to find movie is brilliant
I wanted to see this movie on a streaming product. No dice. So went to Netflix. Not available. But eBay had this copy for sale. No flaws, hiccups or glitches. Intriguing story that's going to annoy a lot of people. But to me it's just great humor!

Awesome movie
I've always loved this movie and when I learned that it was rare to find it and it never comes on tv anymore, you can't find it on NETFLIX or HULU or REDBOX....had to have it. It was brand new AND NEVER opened. Love it thanks.
