Textbook from the 90s--prof can make the difference!
The book has been written concisely and though it doesn't intuitively present chapters with hardware-software harmony in mind, it has enough detail for the reader to pick the necessary details. However, an able professor should be able to cater to the students needs: for ex, my professor had his slides organized (rearranged chapters, etc.) such that the material was seen in better light. There are a few mistakes in the book, but the corrections certainly helped. I wish there was CD or website with programs showcasing the concepts, but that is easily remedied by Googling more info.
