À propos de ce produit

Product Information

One moment can change a life forever. Fifteen-year-old Izzy has it all -- a loving family, terrific friends, a place on the cheerleading squad. But her comfortable world crumbles when a date with a senior ends in a car crash and she loses her right leg.Suddenly nothing is the same. The simplest tasks become enormous challenges. Her friends don't seem to know how to act around her. Her family is supportive, but they don't really want to deal with how much she's hurting. Then Rosamunde extends a prickly offer of friendship. Rosamunde definitely isn't the kind of girl Izzy would have been friends with in her old life. But Rosamunde may be the only person who can help Izzy face her new one.

  • A drunk driving accident leaves Isabelle an amputee

The title "Izzy, Willy-Nilly" is a nod to main character Isobel, who is becoming quite popular as a high school student. When she resists the urge to follow her inner voice, a horrible accident happens. Isobel gets in a car with a drunk boy, and an accident leaves her without a leg. The book is good on so many levels--it shows the "fall" of Isobel from popular girl to outcast, it shows how kids can overcome odds to become well-adjusted adolescents, it focuses on the dangers of drunk driving, and it also hints at the social hierarchy present in high schools. I have read the book aloud to eighth graders, and I've also recommended it to a few mature middle school readers. The content is more for eighth, ninth and tenth grade, and there's a scene in it that makes me uncomfortable ...
