A nice "TRIP" to the late 60's :)
Saw these movies years ago on late night tv, happy that Midnight movies teamed these flicks together. My favorite in terms of story is Pysch Out which stars a young Jack Nicholson, Dean Stockwell and Bruce Dern. Nicholson is a womanizing wiseass hippy rock band leader. Bruce Dern is a freaked out hippy on the run from goons and Dean Stockwell plays a character who apparently is loosely patterened after Neil Young during his Buffalo Springfield years. Featuring music by The Seeds and Strawberry Alarm Clock. A total time capsule of life in the late 60's but a bit hokey/heavy handed at times, but great nonetheless. Watching the haight ashbury experience at times i say thank Heaven for 1977 and Punk Rock - i give psych out a far out 4 out 5 peacesigns. The Trip is a freak out of a ... Hallucinagenic imagery and wacky vignettes are the strong points. it really doesnt make any sense plotwise but its about an acid trip so dont expect it to make sense just turn on yer lava lamp and enjoy. Written by Jack Nicholson - i give it a groovy 3 out of 5 peacesigns. if you like these 2 counter culture flicks flicks check out Riot on Sunset Strip too..

Two of the ultimate trippy 60's 'hippie' movies
'Psych-Out' is a great film starring Jack Nicholson 2 years before he had his star making appearance in the ultimate Hippie Flick, 'Easy Rider'. This movie was produced by none other than TV's Dick Clark, and it's pretty cool to see character actors like Dean Stockwell and Bruce Dern in this movie. Susan Strasberg is good in the movie, too. The only problem with seeing Jack and Dern playing hippies is that they were in their thirties when they made this film, and it's a stretch to think that they were honest to god hippies. Plus their 'hippie' wigs looked so bad! This is still well worth seeing. 'The Trip' stars Peter Fonda and Bruce Dern, as well a Susan Strasberg again,and is ok, but not as good as 'Psych-Out'. Jack Nicholson wrote the screenplay for 'The Trip', by the way, and he ... He actually wrote the screenplay for The Monkees 1968 film 'Head', which is another freak-out sort of acid trippy silly film. I hope that this DVD with the two films on it isn't out of print forever. If you want to see how Haight-Ashbury in San Fran. really was during the peak 'summer of love' time, you need to see 'Psych-Out'. There are a few extras on the disc with interviews with some of the cast, Dick Clark and the late great Cinematographer, Laszlo Kovacs, who worked on 'Psych-Out', 'Easy Rider' and many many great films. Check it out. Peace, baby,....Groovy.

Psych-In Trip-Out
I loved Psych-Out! I collect psychedelic artifacts and seeing this film for the first time was like visiting a psychedelic 60s museum, something that someone should put together, but hasn't. The plot and the acting were weak by 2015 standards, but it was worth watching just for the trip back in time. The Trip on the other hand, was a drag. The special effects may have been good back in the 60s, if you were high, but were tedious to watch and went on way too long. The Trip was a bummer, but Psych-Out makes this video a must for anyone who holds a fondness for the psychedelic days of the Haight Ashbury.I loved Psych-Out! In the middle of a divorce and a career that's going nowhere, he turns to his friend John, played by Bruce Dern. John suggests an LSD trip. Groves agrees and begins a his odyssey. Dennis Hopper makes an appearance saying "man" 36 times in a single speech. Both films made at the height of the psychedelic era, 1967-68. Psych-Out was produced by Dick ... You can't NOT watch this all time classic!
This movie is a little cheezy in some parts, but Jack Nickelson is great as always with the unusual comments thrown in. He makes a good stoner! Now the soundtrack is all-time the greatest! It has Strawberry Alarm Clock with a lot of really cool psychodelic rarities by them. Also, the Seeds do a really cool rarity during the movie. Trust me, if you like the psychedelic sixties music, you have to have this film.This movie is a little cheezy in some parts, but Jack Nickelson is great as always with the unusual comments thrown in.
