PANIC IN YEAR ZERO: A nuclear attack leaves Los Angeles in chaos and ignites panic throughout the city. Trying to escape the disaster, a family heads for their usual vacation spot only to encounter a group of hoodlums along the way.THE LAST MAN ON EARTH: Based on Richard Matheson's SF thriller I AM LEGEND, THE LAST MAN ON EARTH is about a man who survives a global plague only to be stalked nightly by zombielike victims who call out his name. Vincent Price stars as Robert Morgan, a scientist who tried desperately to come up with a cure for an airborne virus that was killing people around the globe. Although he could not develop a serum in time to save his family, he himself seems to be immune from the disease. Thus, he is left to wander the streets by day, staking zombies, then barricading himself in his house each night as the zombies try to break in and kill him. Price is excellent in the role, going about his horrible business as if it were just another day: waking up and eating breakfast, putting on a suit, calmly staking the zombies, making dinner, listening to records at night. But when he suddenly sees what looks like another living soul out in the daylight, his world is suddenly turned inside out.

Two classic movies worth watching!
This DVD has two good movies on it, that sci-fi/survivalist fans will really enjoy. Panic in the year zero is great movie, but a bit long. It very accurately covers the plight of an average middle class family and provides insight on how using your head can get you through tough times. Even though it is not packed full of special effects [which too many movies lean pretty hard on these days..], the story line is quite believable and interesting. The ending may be a bit out of touch with todays world, but in all a very good movie. I think you can actually pick up some great ideas from this one. The last man on earth is also a good one to see. Vincent price does a very good job capturing the essence of being truly alone and in despair. Although the story line is a bit more ... CLASSIC Heston!, and my favourite of the three movies in this "trilogy/genre"..] Did you know "I am Legend" with Will Smith is the latest modern movie based on the old Vincent Price version? I own all three! I'd recommend both movies to add to your collection, and you just might find yourself watching them over and over.

Two vintage films that hold double enjoyment.
Two great movies found to be even better than remembered as being when first seen a long time ago, which doesn't always happen that way. Most enjoyable viewing of two films that have endured time well. Imagine they are both classics.

Panic in Year Zero/Last Man on Earth
I saw "Panic in the Year Zero" when it first came out in the theater in the early 60s. It still sucks! But not in a bad way. I collect movies that are so bad they are great. "Panic in the Year Zero" isn't one of the best since it actually has a plot and makes sense but it makes up for it with the cheesy acting. Still it has earned a spot in my collection. "Last Man on Earth" is worse or better depending on how you look at it. Vincent Price isn't at his best which makes it more entertaining. I doubt it's based on a true story. A period piece of Cold War Hysteria Entertainment.
This film shows the mindset and the mass hysteria of the Cold War era. Are we safer now? No, we are not. Hysteria is still around, but people seem to be choosing their own brand of it. Panic in Year Zero is not a great movie. It made an impression on me in the 60s though, and I had to see it again. Worth your time.

For a 1960's flick, not bad.
It was a used DVD but played well. It was a black and white film but was clear and easy to watch. It was a 1960s flick but ahead of its time and shows how little the geopolitical map has changed little if any in the last half century.
