A Fun Novelization of a Sci-Fi Horror Classic!
Alan Dean Foster's novelization of The Thing is a great little book. Foster's an old hand at novelizing sci-fi and horror, having also done Star Wars (actually ghostwritten as George Lucas), Alien, its sequel Aliens, Disney's The Black Hole and several others, as well as numerous original works. Here, he perfectly captures the isolation and paranoia of the antarctic research outpost that's been invaded by a shape-shifting alien, and I daresay he's on par with the original John W. Campbell novella, on which both Howard Hawks and John Carpenter based their respective versions of this classic sci-fi horror concept. Recommended for all Thing fans
I have always been a fan of the Thing by John Carpenter, and when they decided to make a prequel to that movie, I had to go check it out. Then, I couldn't get enough after seeing that, so I HAD to have this book, which is based on the early script of the 1982 movie. What's great about this book is that it has a few different things in it than what's in the movie, so it deosn't seem repetitive of the movie, which can get kind of boring in a book. Also, it makes you think more about the monster and the guys trapped with it at the outpost..this book has a little more insight into the monster than the movie does. Excellent book
I dont really read alot of books like this, but when I found out about this adaption, I couldn't resist. Its fear, real palpable fear. Proof that man is the warmest place to hide.

Possibly the best movie tie-in book ever written!
This is based on a different screenplay than what was used for the film, so you can expect a few differences here and there. That's what I like about it so much. This book is well written and the pacing and suspense are just right. I wish the book was longer. Also this book is out of print; I wish this would change so I can find a new copy.
