In addition, this Intel Pentium 4 offers an L1 memory capacity of 8 KB and an L2 Advanced Transfer Cache capacity of 512 KB. The maximum bus speed on this 3.4 GHz CPU is 800 MHz. This Intel processor contains a maximum TDP of 89 watts, with a maximum manufacturing process of 130 nm. It also has a maximum temperature threshold of 154.4 degrees F (68 degrees C). Keeping the CPU under that temperature will eliminate the possibility of overheating or freezing during data transfers.     Good for the money, but I wouldn't go upgrade route again...

    I bought this processor as a replacement for the 2.4Ghz processor that was previously in use in my Intel D865PERL motherboard. The board was less stable with this processor installed, and although technically it would boot and run, I could not take advantage of the hyperthreading or other capabilities of the more advanced, newer processor, because the system would constantly give errors when the adv features were enabled. Not the fault of the processor - but I would not have bought it, knowing this in advance. There was no problem with the seller or the the product, I'm sure with the correct motherboard/BIOS, it would have been great, but in my case, even after applying latest BIOS, marginally usable.

    Capable Retro CPU

    The CPU is a reasonably priced upgrade for many socket 478 systems. It performs well for it's age, and paired with a lightweight operating system it can still be usable in some capacity today, especially for light web browsing, document editing, and old games. The bonus thermal paste that came with it is alright, nothing fantastic but it works well enough. Despite being older than the Prescott Architecture, this Northwood CPU outperforms Prescott counterparts in many scenarios. I use this CPU in a Dell Dimension 3000, It works just fine and the CPU hasn't given me any trouble at all.

    a great old chip, but it's time to move on.

    the pentium 4 is quite an old chip. but i find it's still good for basic tasks. if you can get a p4 chip with a higher clock speed (3.4ghz - 3.8ghz), then it would be good for doing online browsing or just typing up word documents. unfortunately, the pentium 4 is starting to become so old that it's no longer supported. to my knowledge, windows 10 will not work on a pentium 4 machine. and that's a shame. the p4 will be considered too old to use, and chips like the core 2 series will be considered "legacy" processors.

    Affordable alternative

    Using in my older (vintage) system to run my older scanners, cameras and printers. Reliable performance at an easy on the wallet price.

    opinion about 3.4 p4 prescott

    i bought it in order to upgrade an old computer. i like this cpu because it is the fastest single core ht 478 slot proccessor and that is why i admire it. i really dislike the high temperatures.. this cpu needs an extra cooler or a watercooling system in order to run as fas as it can perform. the problem is that with a simple air cooler the temperature increases continiously until system crashes.. i think that i would not buy a single core cpu again because it is useless compared to newer cpus. you can buy a cheaper dual core cpu that performs twise faster than this without heating problems. this one is good for historically reasons to have one :)
