Great product
The camera was in great condition and is what I needed to replay tapes that I had filmed many years ago. The only disappointment was that the display screen was smaller than the model I already had. However, given the purpose for which this camera will be used, this isn't a significant problem. The item came well wrapped and protected and had obviously been well cared for.

Having bought, sold and used nearly every camcorder ever made, I have to say this is the best, by a landslide. Aside from the never ending list of features and benefits, this particular Sony was crafted to excellence. The solid construction shows Sony's intent to build a product that would, not only outperform the competitive field, but to outlive the inevitable barrage of "me-too" bells and whistle copycats to be marketed in the years to come. Sony has forever produced, within in their product line-up, certain models that become the absolute reference standard, and this model is exactly that. When you add those factors along with the incredible features and functions on the unit, the DCR-TRV103 becomes the absolute most valuable player of the entire portable video tape field.I am not ... Any small and complicated electronic device,whose designated use is to be carried to the family picnic/football/graduation/wedding/UFO site/ etc., is subject to some level of non-operational behaviour. However, if you told me that I had been selected, as the only human on the planet ever to be allowed to visit heaven, and then come back. And, that I could take all the pictures I wanted in order to show the only documented proof in the history of mankind of its existance, then this is the camera I would want to take on the trip. If you have owned this model and have ever found any other camcorder to be better over-all, please post a comment indicating so, as I would love to hear about it. I suppose the best way to add maximum credibility to this review is to simply look at how much money the unit still commands on the open market, after all this time. When you do see one on eBay for sale, it aint never cheap, and for good reason. Hold one in your hands, turn it on, use it, and you will want one; even if you don't really have a use for it. It is one of those. If you don't know what this model does, or does not, just try to think of anything you might want to do concerning the recording of audio and video. Anything. Anything at all, and that, is what it can do. And, it will do it better than anything else you can buy. Period. The End.

If you're like me and you like the old style camcorders with all the bells and whistles and you like shooting footage on tape, get your hands on one of these. This is not an HD camera using digital memory, but it is a digital camcorder capturing your footage on tape digitally. So, if your computer has a Fire Wire (iLink) port, you can download your footage from any 8mm tape directly (but of course, we already knew that from the other reviews and product descriptions). I could go on and on but that's about all I have time for.What can I add to some of the other excellent reviews. The Sony Handycam DCR TRV-103
These older digital video cameras are great!!! They have a lot of features that the newer digital video camera don't alway have like microphone input, headphone output, lanc control, composite A/V in and out, eyepiece viewfinder, nighshot, firewire in and out, and all kinds of special effect features. If you can get your hands on one of these, go for it. I am a professional freelance videographer and use this camera on less important events. I already have 3 of them and all bought at Ebay at a price that can't be beat.These older digital video cameras are great!!! They have a lot of features that the newer digital video camera don't alway have like microphone input, headphone output, lanc control, composite A/V in and out, eyepiece viewfinder, nighshot, firewire in and out, and all kinds of special effect features.
