Not as good as the first!
The problem with sequels is that they try to capitalize on the success of the first. The original Lake Placid was a wonderful scary & amusing farce with a big name cast & featuring lots of thrills as well as laughs. This low budget sequel tries to capitalize on that with cheap CGI effects & a no name, well virtually no name, cast. The only real name is Cloris Leachman who takes over Betty White's spot as her sister. We are told White's character disappeared & in the world of Lake Placid, we all know what that means! Gone are wild life warden Bill Pullman (replaced by a woman), suspicious & humorless Sheriff Brendan Gleeson (replaced by a good old boy father), perky out of place zoologist Bridget Fonda (replaced by... nobody!) & rich wannabe zoologist Oliver Platt (replaced by an inept big ... Leachman doesn't have the shock effect of Betty White telling people to "F OFF!" & her character is far too salty & sullen. The rest of the cast are a bunch of no names trying hard to pull off inane dialog to keep the film light despite the carnage that is happening around them.to make things worse, added in are a group of teenagers making this feel more like your basic teen horror film & also taking focus away from the band of hunters which was the focus of the first film. you are forced to deal with too many characters in this sequel. Unfortunately, this is done to add more gore to the film thanks to a host of additional victims. Plus it gives the opportunity to add sex to the mix by adding 2 bikini clad teenagers. There is plenty of gore! Some of it is CGI while the rest is shown via props. Unlike the original, the sequel feels inclined to go by the old adage, "Blood sells!" & there is a ton of blood! It is a shame that this sequel couldn't continue the humor & horror of the original without buckets of blood, but I guess there budget was spent on gore as opposed to a more recognizable cast! Still, the unknown cast does it's best to try to capture some of the flavor of the first & there is some decent banter. the film is still reasonably entertaining & a worthwhile rent or purchase (if you can get it cheap enough!).

This is a Sci-Fi Channel associated production, if that tells you anything. The crocodiles look great and it is beautifully shot in scenic locations. A little too perfect looking at times though. The story is about huge crocodiles infesting a Maine lake and munching on the locals. The gore is okay. I think the story line and script was written by a 9 year old. It was great to see John Schneider and Cloris Leachman anyway. I think to critique this any longer would be a waste of my time and your time. Big critter eats teens.
What else do you need to know? Big critter eats teens, the more obnoxious they are, the messier the eating, the standard teen movie slasher/monster death sequence "make out or nudity means you are going to get cut/chomped" is followed, and the movie doesn't really handle the way teens act, don't act, or even pay lip service to the adult emotions. But it has a big critter, and it eats teens! .

Loved the adventure
I have Lake Placid 1 and knew I would like two. I liked the action and the part where the kid was tossing the eggs and got nailed by the Croc. I liked Amad the best, he was really good at everything and his boss was good at nothing. I liked Betty White better, but Chlores Leachmen was good too

I agree with the reviewer from Rue Morgue that this is really substandard fare. It does not have half the interest of Lake Placid I. Best thing was a glimpse of some flesh in the beach scene, and the Deputy getting his hand chomped off. Richard E. Gray
