I own 2 now
I purchased this receiver to replace one I bought new in 2004 that quit working. I was so satisfied with the original that I bought another used. It doesn't have any HDMI ports like newer models, but I am able to connect all my devices without needing them. After replacing my non-working unit with the used unit I purchased, I was able to revive the old unit with a simple cleaning with compressed air. Now I have 2 working units. The amp puts out big power, and since it's THX certified, it's built like a tank and extremely heavy.I purchased this receiver to replace one I bought new in 2004 that quit working. Pioneer VSX-1014tx audio and features are superbly engineered.
Pioneer VSX-1014tx is a 35 lbs. 110 watt p/channel 7.1 THX surround sound receiver. 110 watts on each of the 7 channel discrete, not shared. I use 2 subs with one out using a Y adapter. I use to bad mouth this receiver because of the auto (MCACC) surround sound set up using a mic. included. The results always degrade the speakers frequency capabilities. I only use it as a basis to set up the EQ custom 1/2 adjust. I use the manual speaker set up to calibrate the EQ (bass, mids. and treble) on each speaker if you know how to use an equalizer. I use the TRIM to increase/decrease each speakers' volume for better blending between the front, center/ and rears without using and increasing the rear channel select volume control which affects the total output overall. For example, on custom 1 the ... Pioneer VSX-1014tx is a 35 lbs. 110 watt p/channel 7.1 THX surround sound receiver. 110 watts on each of the 7 channel discrete, not shared. For example, on custom 1 the rears is set to TRIM level +2.5 and custom 2 is set to +2 level with the same frequencies. I leave the speaker fine levels at 0 db and use the TRIM to increase it for a better matrix response. The left, center & right are also adjusted accordingly. Instead of a fixed sound from your speakers like most receivers do and aside from the bass and treble this unit allow you to adjust the speakers parameters to your liking in an equalizer format. 40hz-bass, 125hz- mid-bass, 250hz-mid, 4khz-mid-high, 13khz-high & trim-volume. You'll hear even cheap speakers sound expensive. When I discovered this feature, I kept the unit. I use a Toslink or coax fiber optic cable to connect my DVD Player instead of analog connections. I like it when the DVD player tell the receiver what the disc format is. The 6th and 7th channels could be used for bi-amping or bi-wiring front LR speakers if desired for a total of 220 watts at 8 ohms per speaker. All channels have pre-outs for future amplifier connections. This unit requires a lot of set up.The key to an excellent sound reproduction is for you to have a plan. The rest of electronic items you buy to accompany this unit is your choice. The unit have already provided the ground work for you. Patience is the key. Once you find how it ticks, it might keep you inside your room or man cave most indefinitely.

Great Sounding A/V Receiver
I have been extremely pleased with the sound, functionality and features of the Pioneer VSX 1014TX-K 7.1 channel receiver. I have it hooked up to a Bose Accoustimaster 5.1 speaker system with a TV, DVD/VCR combo, TiVo, Pioneer 6 Cassette Tape Deck and Pioneer CD player. It makes my living room sound really big. I love it.

Nice pioneer for cheap.
Nice Pioneer receiver. Very heavy. Feels like it's well quality built. Bought it, because I wanted a nice 7.1 surround sound receiver, but did not want to pay 4 or 5 hundred dollars on one.
