Synopsis
An architect who excelled at transforming an architectural fantasy into a practical, livable home, Addison Mizner was one of the most original and influential designers America has produced. The houses, clubs, and shops he built for the wealthy of Palm Beach and Boca Raton, Florida, evince a brilliant grasp of how to blend a building with the environment, how to adapt it to the climate and how to situate it in order to make the best use of the elements of sea, light, and air. This lavishly illustrated volume recaptures the genius of Addison Mizner. It contains over 180 photographs - both interiors and exteriors - depicting more than 30 residences, including Mizner's own, plus those of Harold Vanderbilt, Rudman Wanamaker, A. J. Drexel Biddle, Jr., Edward Shearson, Mrs. Hugh Dillman, and many more. Also covered are such landmark Mizner creations as the Everglades Club, Via Parigi, the Singer Building, The Cloister at Boca Raton, the Riverside Baptist Church at Jacksonville, and many others.A superb appreciation by author and journalist Ida M. Tarbell offers fascinating glimpses into Mizner's early life and background, and how it prepared him to develop architecture that ""belonged"" in the Florida landscape. Inspired by the beauty and charm of the villas and palaces of the Mediterranean, Mizner designed in a Spanish Colonial style far better suited to the subtropical sun and climate of Florida than the transplanted houses of the North at first so common in the state. A new Introduction by Mizner scholar Donald W. Curl offers an additional appreciation of the architect and his innovative and imaginative conceptions, which continue to win new admirers among connoisseurs of classic design.Reproduced from a rare edition much sought after by collectors, this inexpensive volume will be welcomed by architects, students and historians of architecture - and anyone interested in the life and achievements of Addison Mizner., Reprint of rare, handsome volume illustrates more than 30 Florida residences designed by great architect in imaginative adaptations of Spanish Colonial style. Also, such landmark creations as the Everglades Club, Via Parigi, the Singer Building, The Cloister at Boca Raton, the Riverside Baptist Church at Jacksonville, and many more. 185 photographs., Reprint of prized volume depicts over 30 residences and other buildings designed by great architect in imaginative adaptations of Spanish Colonial style. 185 photographs., An architect who excelled at transforming an architectural fantasy into a practical, livable home, Addison Mizner was one of the most original and influential designers America has produced. The item was just as described and an amazing price so that's why I'm giving positive feedback. It's over 10 dollars cheaper than average for this item which can't be beat. But man, it took over 20 days to get to me. And when I messaged them I got stock response until finally told it shipped and then it did. That's the problem with this seller, they make the shipping label almost instantly but take weeks to actually send out the item. I dunno if I'll order from them again.

I see a number of negative comments about this seller, but I took a chance since it was a great price for the book I was looking for. I ordered on July 2 and just got the book today July 22. It came in safely packed and intact. Condition was as described and expected. The seller uses DHL for shipping, and I think this is where most complaints stem from. Once I ordered the book there was no further info other than it had shipped. No tracking number. Otherwise, I have no issues with this seller.

Very slow to arrive (well past the estimate), but came safely at last in minimalist packaging. Customer service was polite when contacted regarding delay and an initial lack of tracking details. After communicating with them, the tracking eventually began to provide updates but it was a long wait. The book was a different edition than pictured but it was in a “very good” condition as advertised; also it was fairly priced. Overall, I am satisfied except for the very long wait.
