Product Information

The stop-motion animation by legendary special effects maestro Ray Harryhausen comprises some of the most complex, technically proficient, and visually stunning in film history, and have more than withstood the test of time. Collected here are five of his most-loved films, displaying the talent and imagination responsible for changing the course of science fiction and fantasy films forever. They have yet to be equaled by anything that has been made since. In the classic JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS, Jason embarks on a quest for the Golden Fleece in order to assume the throne of Thessaly. Along the way, he and his crew encounter all manner of malicious beasts and monsters, including the Hydraa, an enormous beast with seven snakeheads, the Harpies, and an army of skeletons, whose battle sequence is a milestone of special effects virtuosity. Sinbad's voyages are similarly afflicted in THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD, THE GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD, and SINBAD AND THE EYE OF THE TIGER. Here, he finds himself up against a one-eyed centaur, a griffin, the giant Minoton, a Cylcops, a saber-wielding skeleton, and a fire-breathing dragon, among many other terrifying creatures that are simultaneously awe-inspiring in their presentation. Finally, Harryhausen brought to life Jonathan Swift's classic tale of GULLIVERS TRAVELS in THE 3 WORLDS OF GULLIVER. This awesome fantasy is both a captivating story and a visual treat. The great disparities of size called for by the script gave rise to the creation of a new photographic technique called Superdynamation, yet another example of the brilliance of the animator, and a perfect tool for the the story of Gulliver's experiences in Brobdingnag and Lilliput, the lands of the great and small.

    Wonderful Collection

    This collection shows some of the best of legendary animator Ray Harryhausen's work. In this set, you get all of his Sinbad movies, Jason and the Argonauts, and the 3 Worlds of Gulliver. All of these movies showcase his spectacular talent for creating monsters, and the 3 Worlds of Gulliver, which is more of a child's fairy tale then the others, shows his wonderful camera tricks in play to show giant, and tiny, people. All the movies come with special features, including many "making of" featurettes, the Harryhausen Chronicles, still galleries, trailers, Interviews, and the like. This set is definately worth buying, either just for the movies themselves, which are wonderful fantasy films, and also to see Ray in his peak.

    Some of the best fantasy ever made

    Ray Harryhausen's was awe inspiring back in the day, and it is still good now. I would have swapped out Guilver's travels for a different movie, since there is only one really good Harryhausen sequence in there (thus the four stars on the rating). Jason and the Argonauts has the famous skeleton fight sequence, which is only slightly cooler than the hydra. The cyclops, dragon, and rock from the 7th Voyage of Sinbad are in the same league. Dr. Who's Tom Baker saying "Achmed" a lot, stunning Caroline Munro in a harem girl outfit, and dancing Kali all rock the Golden Voyage of Sinbad. The minotaur golem and the sabertooth tiger stand out in Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger. If you get a chance to buy this, you would be a fool not to get it.

    Harryhausen Sinbad movies

    With this set, I ended up with 5 movies, Jason and the Argonauts, 3 different Sinbads, and The 3 worlds of Gulliver. Except for Gulliver, I have seen all of the other movies before, and these are still better then the newer ones. The stop motion has to be seen to be believed. The sets are beautiful, and the people could really act back then. Another one to consider buying is Clash of the Titans. I bought the new 2010 Clash of the Titans, but the story line was wrong, and the older Harryhausen version was still the best. These movies are great for the whole family, and exciting enough for the teenagers in your home.

    Harryhausen rules

    As a child of the sixties, I grew up on these movies. I introduced my children to these movies in the 1990's and my grandchildren in 2000's. I have watched each of these films too many times to count and even though stop motion animation is much different then today's CGI, the magic that is stop motion animation and the genius that is Ray Harryhausen will never cease to fascinate children and adults alike

    for the kid in all of us.....

    This is a must have for any baby boomer who was raised on Ray Harryhausen's unique style of stop motion monsters ! I remember watching all his movies and always enjoyed them ! Forget about the digital age cause, there's nothing compared to the " old style " and true art form of stop motion. Ray Harryhausen was my childhood hero and will always remain as that. Call me "old skool " if you wish but, that's quite alright by me ! Just get this and enjoy ~ the trip down Memory Lane is wonderful and a must have for kids of all ages !
