Product Information

A priceless classic, MY FAIR LADY has become one of the most popular musicals of all time. Based on George Bernard Shaw's 1913 play PYGMALION, the film swept the Academy Awards. Cecil Beaton's lavish sets and costumes and Lerner and Loewe's winning score became the background for George Cukor's striking mix of styles that ranged from the fantastic to the abstract in his telling of the tale of a waif who's educated into being a lady. Egotistical linguist Professor Henry Higgins (Oscar-winning Rex Harrison) bets his friend, Colonel Hugh Pickering (Wilfrid Hyde-White), that he can transform Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle (Audrey Hepburn) in time for an important society ball. His gamble could pay off--but the spirited Eliza is more of a handful than the Professor could have predicted. As she slowly becomes more refined, and less reliant upon him, Higgins realizes, to his confusion, that he can't live without her. The film was nominated for 12 Oscars and won eight, including Best Picture and Director.

This is a treasure...great story...delightful lyrics...absolutely timeless masterpiece! For the Jeremy Brett (Sherlock Holmes) fans, watch him sing and dance trying to court Audrey Hepburn. Equally amusing is Theodore Bikel who is employed to strip away the mask of this "Fair Lady"! The frank opinions, set to music, are ever so "Politically Incorrect" yet undeniably enjoyable. Whether it's Rex Harrison as Professor Henry Higgins, Wilfrid Hyde-White as Colonel Hugh Pickering, or Stanley Holloway as Eliza's father, a man of very questionable character, we are talking top professional actors in this brilliantly composed Lerner and Loewe play - with everyone at the top of their game. A CLASSIC! :-) My Fair Lady is a Pretty Woman indeed!!
I JUST LOVE THIS MUSICAL!!~~ I purchased this DVD anniversary edition of the Academy Award winning "MY FAIR LADY" to add to our DVD collection after I realized my 19yr old daughter had never seen what she now realizes is the original version of "Pretty Woman." :-) Well, of course this is played by Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison in a musical format, and is about making over a poor English flower girl in horse and buggy days, instead of a current day struggling "working girl," Julia Roberts, also of the street and leading man Richard Gere. BUT my daughter thoroughly enjoyed it just the same. She also seemed pleased too to make the connection of the re-make of classic tale after a few minutes in to playing it today for the first time, :-). I loved it as much this time as when I saw it years ... CLASSIC!! :-) ~ MY FAIR LADY is terrific family viewing, with strong family values presented in this classic musical! :-)~~ I'm glad it is available on DVD, and I can't wait to view the EXTRAS disk in this Anniversary Edition DVD of the musical.

My Fair Lady, My Favorite Movie
The DVD was a gift for a family member, but I would have purchased it for myself if I didn't already own it! I love the music and the costumes. I catch myself singing some of the songs as I'm going along with my daily duties, it cracks my husband up. My kids, ages 2-9 also sing along, all boys BTW. My oldest son says it's one of his favorite movies next to The Wizard of Oz and Star Wars. I liked this particular DVD because it had a bonus disc with extra features and footage.The DVD was a gift for a family member, but I would have purchased it for myself if I didn't already own it! Delightfully Uplifting Family Oriented Movie. G rating.
The best movie ever made. Audrey Hepburn at her best! She worked with a coach and sang every song in the movie. It was jack Warner who later brought in Marni Nixon to dub her, as he was dissatisfied with the quality of her voice. Audrey was devastated. Her voice can be heard however, in "Just you Wait", which was a mix between her and Nixon.

My Fair Lady is a must have musical ...
I you have never seen My Fair Lady ... you must see it. If you have seen it, what can I say that you don't already know. Fantastic songs performed by incredibly talented performers. Costumes beyond compare. Audrey Hepburn is beautiful and compelling. It is a long movie, but you don't notice it at all. AND ... as a bonus ... there is a documentary about the making of the movie and the restoration of the film. This is also a must see. Buy this dvd and you won't be disappointed. Opinion: Never buy anything from dvdlegacy.com I received a damaged dvd and no satisfaction.
