In the role of a mercenary, Far Cry 2 players find themselves in Africa. They are to bring down an arms dealer known only as "the Jackal," who has been thriving on tribal warfare. a good game
I would describe Farcry 2 as a cross between Mercs 2 and Call of Duty 4. It uses controls very similar to CoD4 but is open world game like Mercs2, so you drive to different locations and accept missions from different factions. there are lots of missions where you "go here and destroy this" or "kill this guy". The game has a lot of good ideas, but fails deliver. for example, the idea of guns wearing out is good, but they wear out to often. another problem is that its a bit difficult to see enemies in the jungle environment. but problems aside, it's still a good game. and lasts 50 hours so you get a lot of bang for your buck. also the game has some [not like Mass Effect] story splits. so you may decide to kill or save someone. another plus is the LEVEL EDITOR. its similar to the halo 3 ... The player is able to tag certain objects and locations such as cars, sniper towers, ammo pickups and buildings, so that they are able to monitor them on their map. When vehicles are damaged the player must perform a short repair animation, involving the tightening of one of the bolts on the radiator (assault trucks), headers (buggy) or other ... A unique fire propagation mechanism, which allows a small fire to spread and eventually cause large brush fires, may be used either to the player's advantage during combat or against the player. The behavior of fire is dependent on factors such as wind speed, wind direction, rain, and vegetation type. For example, a fire may not spread as easily in a lush, moist jungle environment compared to dry, grassy plains and savannahs. Several species of African wildlife can be encountered in the game, and are able to distract the enemy as well as make them aware of the player's presence.[13] All the large animals in the game are grazing herbivores, such as zebras, wildebeest, gazelle, buffalo, impala, and gemsbok. Also domestic animals such as goats and chickens can be found. However, none of the wildlife found in the game pose any direct threat to the player.

Far Cry 2, Far From Perfect
Having played a demo of the original Far Cry Instincts for XBOX, I skipped over the enhanced XBOX 360 Far Cry Instincts/Instincts Preditor (which was really more of a FarCry 1 1/2 than a sequel), and went straight to FarCry 2 on PS3 (which was not really a sequel either, but rather another story and character altogether, along with a completely new game engine and graphics,- still, a great game in its own right). Now that I have come back around to play FarCry Instincts and Preditor, I can appreciate it for it own worth,- though the environment is miniscule in comparrison to the expansive area that can be covered and traveled back and forth within without getting boring in FarCry 2. FarCry Instincts/Preditor is a pretty basic firstperson shooter that while allowing for some interesting ... (FarCry 2 suffered the same failed imagination and creative element that should have made it more plausible,- such as no crocodiles attacking waterbuffalo or zebra crossing water,- and of course would have posed a heartpounding threat to players crossing water as well). I cannot count the number of times I was point blank shooting an enemy in the face with a shotgun, only to have them continue to finish whatever stupid nonsense they were lipping off to me, as if I hadn't hit them,..NO DAMAGE,.. when I could have poked out their eye with the barrel! It doesn't occur continually, but happens enough to really piss you off,- when you work your ass off to stealthfully get the drop on them. Both Preditor and FarCry 2 are great games, but have AI that can get inanely repetative in their actions and dialog, but provide enough variety in weapons, enemies and behaviour/tactics to continue to present a challenge and carry a reasonably well written storyline. All of the FarCry games have replay value and are must have additions to any collectors library. I have scored FarCry Instincts Preditor 4 of 5 stars, but that is relative to other console games published when it was. The PC version was better, and FarCry 2 still only scores 4 of 5 stars, in spite of being considerably better than its predecesor,- as I am rating it against console games that were published when it was and are its better.

Good shooter for those with patience.
Far Cry 2 fills my need to discharge weapons into pixelated bad guys. The sound of the weapon fire is distinct, loud and satisfying. The graphics are impressive: the African environment, vehicles, weapons, characters, and the way that fire spreads through the dry grass and foliage. Although there is no 'save anytime' function, there are plenty of save opportunities. Throughout the game you will encounter mercenary "buddies" that will frequently arrive to save you just as you are on the brink of death. The healing process is cool, as you inject syrettes, pop bones back into place, and dig bullets out of your flesh with a plyer or knife. Fire is a useful tool, as it spreads easily and will sometimes engulf the enemy and turn them into charred remains. This is an open world/non-linear ... The ultimate goal is to track down and waste a notorious arms dealer known as "the Jackal". In addition to the usual injury from enemy projectiles, you have contracted malaria and must take and ensure a continuing supply of malaria pills. In addition to road vehicles there are machine gun boats, dune buggies, and hang gliders for travel. This game is for those with patience and for those who like to take the time to sneak around and get the best vantage point to dispatch the multitude of enemies. It is also for those who don't mind: a lot of long distance driving/travel, stopping to repair your vehicle with a socket wrench, respawning enemies, and searching for around 220 hidden diamond cases. If you like a rush though linear shooter and don't like to "waste time" doing the things mentioned above, then you will most likely be disappointed with Far Cry 2. For others, it can be a satisfying, immersive shooter.

An African Safari? Guns, Ammo, And Baddies Included.
While at first I was extremely angry that they were calling this a "Far Cry" Sequel, I still pre-ordered it and pretty happy I did. Sure it isn't a sequel in ANY way (unless The Jackal is actually Jack Carver, but the game never says he is...) but if you think of this game as, oh, say "African FPS Numero Uno" Then this is an extremely excellent game. I own this on the Xbox 360 and PC and I'm sure the PS3 version isn't that different (I don't even think the graphics were improved much more on that version if I remember correctly) and I honestly think the PC version is better if you want mods which extend your enjoyment and if you really like the 360 controls you just plug your controller in and Bingo! It works! :) Ok, so GRAPHICS are a 9.4 out of 10 because they are the best so far until ... As with almost any other SANDBOX game, view distance is a problem. Vehicles, Objects, etc. disappear when playing in Multiplayer on User Made maps, but Single Player just has vehicles and environmental objects (bushes, grass, etc.) sometimes are not showing up. It's minor, but odd when you see a friend driving on air through an obstacle course. The gameplay is a 8.0 out of 10 thanks to repetitive missions and AI that seems to be extremely hard to hide from (get the Camo Suit ASAP!). Sound is a 9.5 out of 10, because at times the gun sounds didn't give me that "Whoa that sounded AWESOME" thought. Like the Missile Launcher (not the RPG, that sounded great) had just a, well, like a small "whoosh" sound. The explosions were amazing though, both sound-wise and by graphics. Which by the way, fire realistically moves with the wind and spreads. Very nice addition to the game I must say. The Replayability is quite high, with Multiplayer and a very easy to use map editor (though the PC version makes you leave the game and go into the "Start, Programs, Ubisoft, Far Cry 2, Map Editor" area which on the 360 all you do is click on Map Community in the main menu and select Start Editor. One gripe I have is that the multiplayer didn't have a Predator mode like Far Cry Instincts had (which was the best MP mode other than playing a real zombie mode, like if you could make spawn points for zombie AI and then survive with your friends. THAT would have been amazing.) So I wish Far Cry 2 had atleast some sort of zombie mode, but unfortunately it's the basic "Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Diamond (which is just Capture the Flag), and Uprising, in which each team has a captain that scores points for the team. What makes the game nice, like I've stated before, is that the Map Editor allows millions, if not billions...no infinite ideas to be created. Theme Parks with Log Flumes and Rollercoasters, Race Tracks, maps from movies like Terminator, Maps from other games, fun maps to mess around in with friends, etc. make up for no zombie mode or Co-op. All in all I would have to give Ubisoft a round of applause and give this wonderful game a 9.5 out of 10, because, while there ARE flaws, the greatness outweighs the badness. If you miss out on this game, you need to know that you are missing out on the best FPS of the past 2 years. Yes, even the Halo series (other than the first one) can't beat this badass game that will rock your socks and even with repetitive missions make each minute different than the last! *EDIT: Nevermind what I said about the view distance problem! Sure on MP
