This is an outstanding analysis of Che Guevara. Unlike the romantic portrayals odf Che published in the major media and produced by Hollywood, this book was written in reliance upon numerous independent sources of information. The past portrayals of Che by the major media and Hollywood were entirely based on materials provided by Fidel castro, insiders Castro's government and relatives of Che. My education on the topic of Che Guevara began with my military service with a Special Forces NCO who was part of the team that tracked Che through the Bolivian jungles. This publication by Humberto Fontova provides a graduate course in the life of a mass murderer. The real Che is a polar opposite of the glorious hero manufactured through the Cuban communist propaganda machine. After ... This is an outstanding analysis of Che Guevara. The real Che is a polar opposite of the glorious hero manufactured through the Cuban communist propaganda machine. After establishing Cuba's secret police after the fall of the Batista government, Che's brutal methods coupled with his suspension of any notion of judicial fairness filled Cuba's prisons to overflowing with "criminals" such as Catholics, homosexuals, intellectuals and the followers of modern music. People were arrested without any cause other than a glancing suspicion, incarcerated without a hearing of any kind, interrogated using the most brutal and medieval of methods and executed by the thousands. In Che's role as head of the Cuban economy, he virtually singlehandedly took a country with an economy larger than Japan's and converted it into an economic disaster, ranking at the bottom of even third world economies. Despite his socialist philosophy, Che enjoyed his luxuries. He seized one of the largest estates in Cuba shortly after Castro came into power and claimed it as his own. As far as his military prowess went, Che was an inept coward. At the Bay of Pigs he was over 300 miles away. His most famous "battle" in which he was credited for killing over 3000 of the enemy, the actual casualties were 5 dead. There was no battle since Che had bribed the other side to join their cause. That ineptitude resulted in his being run out of Africa and to his eventual capture and execution in Bolivia. While Che was not skilled in military tactics where the opposition had a tendency to fight back, he was extremely capable in cold blooded murder. The body count attributed directly to Che was well over 100,000 people. If you add the carnage in Africa and South America to which he contributed, the actual number probably exceeds 1 million people. And had Cuba gained nuclear arms as was the plan, Che was unabashed in his statements that he would have used them on New York City as well as other cities in the US. The hatred he had for the United States was perhaps unmatched in modern history. While Che is romanticized as a freedom fighter, he abided by a ruthless philosophy that a true revolutionary must possess and fuel an internal hatred that made one capable of killing without remorse. He certainly did not bring freedom to anyone, and his approach to fighting was limited to the execution of unarmed captives. This book also shows how propaganda can be spread throughout the US by "useful idiots", a term Che used for a liberal media and intellectuals easily swayed to believe anti-US sentiment without scrutiny. Suffice it to say that if more people read this book, there would be few companies marketing items with Che's picture on them. The image of Che should be as offensive to America as a loving image of Adolph Hitler.

Still wondering!
Bought the book because I just got back from Cuba and wanted to see what the author had to say about the country and government and compare it to what I heard there. This was the complete other side of the spectrum. What the truth is no one knows.

A truthful masterpiece
This book really does expose Che Guevara. Iam so happy Im one of the ones that knows the truth, and am not one of the decieved that goes running around in a Che t-shirt. Bottom Line: Humberto is a great writer, who teaches the truth in this book. I thank him for it from the bottom of my heart! Dont be decieved! Buy this book!

I STILL IDOLIZE CHE
I DID NOT LIKE THIS BOOK AT ALL, NOT JUST BECAUSE IT SPOKE BAD ABOUT SOMEONE I SEE AS A ICON, IT JUMPED AROUND ALOT, IT ALSO WAS VERY ONE SIDED, MOST OF HIS SOURCES SEEMED TO BE HIMSELF AND HIS OWN MEMORIES.
