À propos de ce produit

Product Information

You may be the owner of a valuable piece of porcelain or pottery, but the cryptic symbol on the underside of the piece may be your only clue to its value. Kovels' New Dictionary of Marks: 1850 to the Present will help you identify your pieces. Kovels' New Dictionary of Marks provides the quickest and easiest way for professional and amateur collectors to identify more than 3,500 American, European, and Oriental marks. The perfect companion to the Kovels' original best-seller, Kovels' Dictionary of Marks -- Pottery and Porcelain: 1650 to 1850 (still in print after more than 42 years and 41 printings), Kovels' New Dictionary of Marks is the most comprehensive reference for nineteenth- and twentieth-century marks. Together, the two volumes are an indispensable guide to porcelain and pottery marks of the last four centuries. Also available from Three Rivers Press, Kovels' Dictionary of Marks--Pottery & Porcelain: 1650 to 1850

  • The Kovels' New Dictionary

I love this little book to take along with me on my "hunting trips." I love to go antiquing and it has been great to have this ride along with me. I call it the Identifiable Bible. Quite sometime ago, I purchased a very old pitcher and couldn't identify the mark. I searched online, I searched books and still couldn't find the mark. I specifically purchased this book to try and identify the mark, and viola! there it was! Very pleased with my purchase and how easy it is to identify a mark on a piece of pottery or porcelain when I'm on the road searching for that "Antiques Roadshow" blockbuster purchase....*yeah right.* ;) I wish I would have purchased this book sooner!

  • The Kovels' New Dictionary of Marks/Pottery and Porcela

Very comprehensive guide to pottery and porcelain marks. Invaluable for the Seller who is just starting out and is unfamiliar with marks. Marks easy to find with this guide that sorts marks by the shape or graphic images used in marks. I find the Foreign Marks particularly helpful, especially when buying porcelain and pottery from such countries as Russia and Eastern European countries. Many foreign alphabets. Also information very helpful regarding dating systems and how to spot fakes and forgeries. The Kovels do it right one more time. Highly recommended book.Make sure you add this book to your pottery and porcelain library. Helpful for the novice, and the expert!

  • Great resource

This 277 page book (without the index) is well laid out. The information is easy to read and understand for a new collector but could also be a great resource for an experienced collector. The marks shown in the book are very clear with detailed information about each mark. I especially like the dating systems used by certain factories and the "family trees" of some factories. The only downside to the book is that all marks are not included. Considering the massive number of marks possible, I do understand the reason for so many having to be excluded. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in pottery & porcelain collecting or selling.

  • Good reference book

I think this book is a great reference book, especially for the bigger name vintage/antique china makers. I was a little disappointed that they left out a few marks that I have on the back of some of my plates but I think I have an older version. The Haviland marks were good. It could use a bit more information I think, like why certain pieces have additional markings on them but that would probably make the book a third thicker! I bought it specifically for a few Homer Laughlin marks and RS Prussia marks and those weren't in there but it is really a GREAT reference especially when you don't feel like going on the internet and searching forever. It would be nice too if they lumped the china makers marks together, like all Haviland in one section and then all Spode in another, but I still ...

  • Excellent and FUNNNN!

I have “researched” many of my Grandmama’s dear Chinas… just fascinating ! Love this book- bought extras for daughters for when they will be curious themselves to search to know who what where when how - and to contemplate the world at the time of their patterns makings from 1880s through WWII. Just is incredible way to tell my Grandchildren about world history and their GreatGreat, GreatGrandmamas in England. Highly recommended.
