The best rendition of Sir Peter Wimsey ever made!!
I am an avid reader of the talented Dorothy L. Sayers and find these three adaptations of her books so superb. Dare I say they were even more entertaining than the books? Not only the script but the actors themselves. They brought Sir Peter, Harriet Vane, the secretaries and of course Bunter to life!! The casting, from the main characters to the most minor roles were superbly cast. The atmosphere of the 1920s is also so well done. How I wish this cast would have performed Busman's Holiday as well as the previous stories of Sir Peter prior to meeting Harriet Vane. Brilliant acting, outstanding scripts, a delight to view
Absolutely perfect, quintessential Lord Peter. Edward Petherbridge isn't well known to American audiences, but he is an English actor of astonishing abilities to play any role from a beggar to a king. This role, Lord Peter Wimsey, came to him at the height of his powers and he is brilliant in the role. Harriet Walter, as Harriet Vane, is equally well cast and is a brilliantly strong, intelligent woman, equal to Lord Peter in every bout of verbal sparring. The roles fit the actors like comfortable old shoes, and the scripts are dazzling. A bargain at any price.Absolutely perfect, quintessential Lord Peter. Perfect for Dorothy Sayer's Lord Peter Wimsey fans
I've thoroughly enjoyed this version of the Lord Peter Wimsey stories by Dorothy Sayers. Edward Petherbridge is well cast as Lord Peter. Harriet Walters is wonderful too. Richard Morant who played Mr. Bunter, was most appealing. Having enjoyed Ian Carmichael as Lord Peter for years, I was eager to see romance come into the story.The British are so adept at dramatizing their native literature. The supporting cast were excellent and the attention to details as to dress, hair styles and customs just so. the best Peter Wimsey
I loved these when they first were on PBS. The actor who plays Peter Wimsey in this series as well as the woman who play Harriet Vane, are the closest to what I think these characters would look and be like. These three stories are very well adapted to the screen and a total joy to watch. I am interested in the 1930's and these episodes are full of authentic clothing, furniture and decorative items. I had one VHS of one of these episodes. The DVD set replaced that one VHS tape which was not of very good quality. The DVD set is a joy to watch.I loved these when they first were on PBS. Classic Dorothy Sayers!
Classic Dorothy Sayers! This is a nice collection of her works. I usually don't like movies, TV specials etc of good books, but the BBC does a very good job of casting and sticking close to the authors characters and stories. Not disappointed in this collection!
