This book had a long term influence on how I deal with things.
I read this book years ago and had lost my copy. However, it had such an influence on my life that I ordered a replacement. It is based on acknowledging that life is meant to be difficult and that overcoming challenges is part of the process. It recommends facing up to situations as they really are and not as you had imagined. Written in language that is easy to understand.

This is a LIFE-CHANGING book
This is a classic work that has been around since the 1970's. There are loads of great books that help the reader learn to become true to themselves. However, I firmly believe this writing was Supernaturally inspired because of the profound way one's soul is drawn into conflict with one's cognitive beliefs. When you read this, don't expect to sit down on a quiet night to get comfortable with a "good read". Won't happen! If you read this book with an open mind toward change and spirituality, your life will get turned upside down. There was no comfort whatsoever after I read this book, or while I was reading. The first few chapters went slow for me, and I found myself noting my smaller personal disagreements with Dr. Peck, but I gave him the benefit of doubt, and set my beliefs aside ... Less than halfway through, I couldn't put the damn book down. Each chapter stirred inner-conflict. I became "compelled" to question beliefs that I held near and dear. I lost the battle. When I started reading this book, I wasn't in the "self-help" sections of bookstores looking for a "fix-it" to a bland or screwed-up life. I'm a responsible adult, I have a life, I have friends, relatives, and know how to be a decent partner in a significant relationship. Nothing was "wrong" in my life. I was pretty darn comfortable. Enter "The Road Less Traveled". Nothing has been the same ever since. This book brought out hidden parts of my soul that I didn't realize were there. Perhaps they were sleeping? This book woke up so much of me, and it propelled me into an ongoing quest. Instead of accepting "truth" at face value, I now ask many more questions. The book ignited a need within me to seek and find the real truth, especially along my own inner-compass. The book has brought about a quest for deep and personal honesty with myself. I don't want to lie to myself any more. So be forewarned, just as I was. This will change your life. A friend told me this book would change my life. I thought my life was just fine as it was. I scoffed and doubted that anything needed changing. And in a confident, almost arrogant manner, I decided to read this book "just to make George happy" (the friend who gave it to me as a gift). I tell you what, "George" had his way and politely kicked my @ss - and I needed the butt-whooping. This showed me what a real friend George is. Fast forward to today...This mysterious part of me that is my soul, is having it's way with me, whether I want to or not. I thought I knew myself, but my soul shows me every live-long day how little I truly know about me. I'm pulled, torn, and sometimes brow-beaten into paying closer attention to my soul. I know this might sound like a peculiar way of saying this was a good book. From the bottom of my heart, I don't believe the late Scott Peck had very much to do with writing this book at all. Dr. Peck was only a man, who also faced big challenges in his own life, and with his own personal integrity. Somewhere out in the Universe, I believe some undefinable Force of Life used Dr. Peck's heart, mind, and body to communicate the Message this book was intended to communicate. There are three books which I believe are "inspired". "The Road Less Traveled" is one of the three. The "Gospels" (THE GOSPELS ONLY: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) and the "Big Book" of Alcoholics Anonymous are the other two. I hope you enjoy roller-coasters! Keep your arms and legs inside the cart!

Growing up multi disfunction, this book turned lite on
I am now a grand mother watching my children stumble thru the disfunction I caused them with a couple of my divorces Not being able to explain it any better then to realize all I was doing was critizing them expecting them to learn from my mistakes, my twim sisters mistakes, and all their older cousins mistakes. I gave each one of them a copy of this book and begged them to read it. I know they will then understand... Why My lights came on and I am the person I am or try to be...and why it's it's never to late I found the writing simple to read and understand. I was able to stay wioth it and never got bored once I got started. It was my first cover to cover read... I loved it. It got me started on my way to reading more self help and spirituality books. Which eventually led to me ...
