I order six books. The offer was for buy two get one free. One of the six books has several sections of the book with the pages torn in half. The book is not usable. Very disappointing because I spent my own money to buy books for my students to read in a book club in my classroom. I will not purchase from this seller again.

Careful- Plot spoilers!
POSITIVE- Jess Aarons and Leslie Burke both feel like they don’t fit in, yet once they find each other they become a creative, confident pair. Jess feels outcast because no one seems to “get” him, but with the friendship of Leslie he blossoms into the imaginative artist he always was inside. Leslie is social and gregarious, but in this small community is quickly labeled odd. Jess is drawn to her nonetheless. I loved it when Leslie suggested to Jess that he draw Terabithia, and when he said he couldn’t get the poetry of the trees, she just replied, ‘Don’t worry. You will someday.’Now that’s the support of a good friend. At times, Jess seems to be overshadowed by Leslie’s interesting ways. And yes, she is the fastest runner in the school, her essays in class get read aloud, she is well ... He feels no resentment when he is beat in a race. He is a hard worker and genuinely cares about many things. He automatically soothes his baby sister’s fears that Santa won’t come to their house, and even gets his six year old sister May Belle to offer words of encouraging comfort. It almost seems he is wise beyond his years, and sets a wonderful example for his younger sisters and the readers of this story. NEGATIVE- Some of the language- On page 15 …till somebody *itched about your breaking… is the first negative I came to. Later on towards the end, God’ll damn you to hell when you die. That’s kind of harsh in a kid’s book. There are more examples in between the 2, but I think I’ve listed enough to make my point. Katherine Paterson has said she put swearing in the book because it was realistic to the characters, but, being a mom to young children, I can honestly say I wish this book was swear word free so my kids could read it. As it is now, maybe when they are older. The reactions of the children and adults to the local bully are unrealistic. Jess and Leslie stand up to Janice Avery by making fun of her weight, who later, true to bully nature, gets back at them. Then the children concoct a scheme to humiliate their aggressor. Ok, so far, mean spirited, but shows an unfortunate realism. When Leslie finds out that that Janice’ father beats her, she doesn’t even feel bad that the girl gets beatings at home, but feels bad that the girl might be made fun of for getting beatings at home. Jess’ family treats him with disrespect. His older sisters are mean and whiney right under their parent’s noses. His parents send him out to milk the cow while giving the girls money to waste. Ok, siblings aren’t always nice, and many times characters feel their parents treat them unfairly, but usually the reader can see love and caring even when the character cannot. All in All - I absolutely loved the story despite the quantity of “negative” I found in the book. The story has emotionally depth and I found myself wanting a box of tissues by the end. Bridge to Terabithia is recommended for ages 9-12 and I plan on recommending it to my friends (who think they are all adults) and maybe my thirteen year old, but probably not to my younger children, ages eleven and seven.

Bridge to Terabithia: An Excellent Read!
The best part of Bridge to Terabithia is the description of children's emotions. As one 24yr old friend said to me, "It made me remember being 10 an feel 10 again." They are raw, real and uncensored by our adult socialization of what is acceptable to feel and not feel, intentions are blatant, and guilt is immobilizing. If you allow yourself, you will laugh aloud, cry and grimace in anger. From a pychological standpoint, it is excellent! The characters are stark. Descriptions are honest (from the main character Jess's point of view, of course). Desires are in-you-face and unavoidable. This is a book about real life, but from a child's point of view-- the most innocent and naive of the human race. The end of the book is also helpful in knowing what not to do when helping those dealing with grief. It is a read for all ages, all walks of life.

Bridge to Terabithia
I have not seen the movie, but the book is awesome. Very easy to read and get into. Just wish it where a bit longer. Great story, can take most of us back to the awkward years of school. I remember trying to adapt in a new school as a third grader and beyond, with little success. But this girl comes from nowwhere and just champions the "new kid" row in addition to becoming best friends with a boy that feels a bit out of place himself, at school and home.I have not seen the movie, but the book is awesome. Great new and used books at even greater value!
This book purchased for my granddaughter. T age 10 she loves to read! This author is one of her favorites. It is great to be able to purchase v good used books on ebay I can afford and send to my smart and beautiful granddaughter.
