This was a wonderful book. I wanted a “light-hearted-feel-good” story and this surpassed all my expectations. The main character, Novalee Nation, is seventeen and pregnant and traveling to California with her no-good ass of a boyfriend when they stop at a Wal-Mart in Sequoyah, Oklahoma so she can use the restroom. When she heads back out to the car she discovers he has left without her, leaving her stranded with only the clothes on her back. Her marvelous journey begins at that moment. I must have cried a couple times during this book – it was that moving. Hats off to author, Billie Letts, for her grasp of the human heart, the important things in life, the strengths within us all and being able to convey it so well through her writing.This was a wonderful book. It takes a village. ....
This book leaves the reader with a newly found faith in people, neighbors and community. It makes one think about leaving the big city their days rush by within and finding a village in which they could truly belong. This read was exactly what my heart needed.

Compassion of a stranger
This is relevant today and shows how a stranger's love and generosity can change someone's life. It is one of my favorite books I've read this year. I got this one for my sister who also thoroughly enjoyed it.

It is a realistically true story about a pregnant seventeen year old girl, Novalee Nation, and her struggle against everyday life challenges and much more. She was heading to California with her no good boyfriend Willy Jack, when they stopped at a Wal-Mart to buy her some new house-shoes and a snack. She went inside and when she came back out he was gone. He had ditched her at a Wal-Mart with exactly $7.77. Seven months pregnant. Just her luck, seven is her unlucky number. Although at the moment she feels very unlucky, three people that she'll meet in the next hour will change her life forever. A blue haired woman ... This was a warm and captivating story that will leave you thinking about life and its miraculous ways that life has it's ways of working out, with the help of friends and believing in herself as a new Mother. Read this book-it is a feel good book! Do good unto others!
