Product Information

This release gathers together all 69 episodes of the classic comedy show from the UK. The stories center around London's Grace Brothers Department Store, and involve the campy misadventures of the staff. The fun begins when principle characters Mr. Grainger (John Inman) and Mrs. Slocombe (Mollie Sugden) discover they have to work in close proximity to each other. The highly disgruntled Grainger runs the rather uptight men's clothing department, while Slocombe heads up a team selling women's underwear. The clash leads to endless innuendo, and plenty of laughs. The show ran for 13 years on British television, and has become a huge hit on PBS in the USA.

"Are You Being Served?" A hillarious British comedy
"Are You Being Served?" was written by Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft, well-known among the British for their various comedy productions. This show originally aired in the 70's by the British Broadcasting Corporation and casts some of Britain's biggest stars such as John Inman and Mollie Sugden. This comedy is about the dysfunctional staff of the Ladies and Gentleman's clothing department in a store named Grace Brothers. It has an unbelievably quirky contingent of clerks in the department, that when they combine, it makes for a hilarious shopping experience! Not only does this show have hilarity, it has a musical sense to it as well. In quite a few episodes, you will see the staff in some type of musical performance and dance routine that goes along with the script. This adds even more ... PBS used to air this show in the late 80's to the mid 90's, along with other British comedies, usually late at night. My mother and i used to stay up and watch this show together, and just laugh and laugh. The only thing that i dislike about this show is that there are a few staff replacements throughout the series. Even though a new staff member of Grace Bros. is introduced, the new staff member acts in an almost identical manner as the one they replaced. This show is among my top 5 favorites. The comedy revolves mostly around the hard times and the low wages that the staff receive. This causes them to come up with interesting an out-of-this-world solutions to their problems.This helps to cause a lot of mischief going on in the departments among each other, and sometimes taking up to management level. To me, the mixture of the characters and how they act with one another is what makes this show so funny. I think that you will find every character in this department has a specific trait that will remind you of people in your workplace! I recommend this show for ages 25-60. The script makes a few historical references that people under the age of 25 might know or remember, and therefore miss out on the comedy that the reference is based on. I recommend that if you have never watched this show, that you start from the very beginning, but don't judge it just by that. You need to watch a few episodes to see how the staff interacts with one another, and the comedy and chaos it creates.

"Are You Free?" "I'm Free!!!"
"Are You Being Served" was a show that I would watch on occassion as a kid and watched on a regular basis when it was on BBC-America. When BBCA discontinued "Are You Being Served" on it's weekday afternoon line up, it was time to purchase the complete DVD set and I have not regretted it. I work overnights in a treatment facility for juvenile delinquents and watch at least one of the volumes every week while working. "Are You Being Served?" is good old fashioned humor, with no foul language, with no offensive material, and if Mrs. Slocombe does refer to her pussy it's soon made perfectly clear that she's referring to a cat. The cast in the show is top notch with Mollie Sugden, Frank Thornton, John Inman, Trevor Bannister, Wendy Richard, Arthur Brough, and Nicholas Smith at the helm. The ... Are You Being Served? The Complete Collection
I have loved this show since I was a little girl! Watching it again brings back memories of watching it with my Dad on Saturday nights. The whole cast was funny and clever! I have watched the show multiple times since then and they still make me laugh! This is ENTERTAINMENT as it was meant to be! I bought it so I can watch it anytime I feel like it. My teenage daughter now watches it and is hooked on the show. In our family we often use Mr Humphrey's line of "Are You Free???" when we need someone to come and help us. When we say it we use his tone and character, which makes us all laugh! Mrs Slocombe is so serious but funny at the same time. We love watching her hair color change with each episode! Mr Lucas has had us rolling on the floor with his humor and quick ... I have loved this show since I was a little girl! Are you busy? Even if you are, watch this series!
I became hooked on this British sitcom during college, and moving around the globe hasn't afforded me the opportunity to view reruns, so I knew I had to buy the complete series! Being in retail, and loving dry humor enabled me to appreciate this fantastically scripted series even more. Setting is one area or another of a department store, and the antics that go on while they are assisting customers, dealing with one another daily, and divulging their personal issues. You and your "pussy" (cat - you have to watch it to appreciate that pun) should have a spot of tea and enjoy the viewing! A SMASHING JOLLY GOOD TIME!
OH, OH, OH...want a great crew ! It's a shame their still not doing this show. But time goes on. Then again no one could every take their places or create the magic. Their antics and songs and dances are timeless. FUNNY! FUNNY! FUNNY! A wonderful show for all time and ages. So glad I could get the complete series for myself and my 6 year old granddaughter to enjoy, I know she'll laugh and laugh. WONDERFUL!!!OH, OH, OH...want a great crew !
