Great movie
Great story with good actors. The DVD quality is excellent. Both the English and American releases are on the DVD with the original English version being about 13 minutes longer. One of the best scifi/horror movies I've seen in a long time.

It fits the movie.
It is a very good movie. It is unlike any other horrormovie I ever seen. The main male character is a skeptic about the demon, even after it has appeared a couple of times. Even at the end I’m not sure he believes.

Superior occult movie
I saw Dana Andrews in an interview in which he expressed disappointment in the director's decision to interject images of the, admittedly, scary-looking demon onto the screen, after Dana had viewed the movie without those images. Dana said he felt the terror on the actors' faces looking into the darkness at a thing unseen was actually more frightening than the sight of an actual "demon." I wholeheartedly agree. I feel that such movies should be more about excercising the viewer's imagination than the filmmaker's special effects efforts. A Well Told Story
Not quite a horror story, and not quite a sci-fi story. But a story of the paranormal told very well. Many movies today try to cover too much ground and tend to get lost in an abundance of detail. This story is, on the other hand, a rather simple one and covers a relatively more brief time span. I won't give the plot away, but I've read that the director, Jacques Tourneur, did not like the special effects (i.e. the creature) that was added to the film - that he preferred to leave more to the powers of suggestion and the imagination. I disagree. Though necessarily quite basic, the special effects enhance (my opinion) the overall quality and story-telling capability of the film - and definitely doesn't over-burden it. I remember seeing this movie first when I was in my mid to late teens, and also remember being definitely "creeped out" for some time after seeing it. I don't feel quite that way anymore, but enjoy the film all the more. Discovering that the DVD has both the American (shorter) and European (longer) versions was a very pleasant surprise. I found that the longer version helped to explain some of the plot twists that the shorter version doesn't. The film also loses none of its punch being filmed in black and white. For that matter, I think that it is enhanced by it.

Good Occult movie
Had seen this movie in my teen years and it was scary to me then. The 2 titles is confusing, as I think it's the same movie with a different title. However, I'm not certain if there are any scenes contained in one movie and not the other. Overall it's a good look into thew occult/witch craft
