Synopsis
An insightful, empowering guide to making the most of your hidden strengths. Are you energized by spending time alone? In meetings, do you need to be asked for your opinions and ideas? Do you tend to notice details that other people miss? Is your ideal celebration a small get-together rather than a big party? Do you often feel like a tortoise surrounded by hares? The good news is, you're an introvert. The better news is that by celebrating the inner strengths and uniqueness of being introverted, The Introvert Advantage shows introverts how to work with instead of against their temperament to enjoy a well-lived life. Covering relationships, parenting--including parenting an introverted child--socializing, and the workplace, here are coping strategies, tactics for managing energy, and hundreds of valuable tips for not only surviving but truly thriving in an extrovert world. "Filled with Aha! moments of recognition, Dr. Laney's book will help millions of introverts understand why they are misunderstood, learn to appreciate who they are, and develop a just-right life in a world where extroverts once ruled." --Paul D. Tieger, coauthor of Do What You Are "In a world of shock jocks, screaming rock stars, and sensational journalism, this book dispels the myth that only the loud and flamboyant get ahead. Its clear, step-by-step advice will help introverts recognize and capitalize on their unique strengths." --Dr. Bernardo J. Carducci, author of Shyness: A Bold New Approach, An insightful, empowering guide to making the most of your hidden strengths. Are you energized by spending time alone? Its clear, step-by-step advice will help introverts recognize and capitalize on their unique strengths. Dr. Bernardo J. Carducci, author of Shyness: A Bold New Approach, At least one out of four people prefers to avoid the limelight, tends to listen more than they speak, feels alone in large groups, and requires lots of private time to restore their energy. They're introverts, and here is the book to help them boost their confidence while learning strategies for successfully living in an extrovert world. After dispelling common myths about introverts-they're not necessarily shy, aloof, or antisocial--The Introvert Advantage explains the real issues. Introverts are hardwired from birth to focus inward, so outside stimulation-chitchat, phone calls, parties, office meetings-can easily become "too much."The Introvert Advantage dispels introverts' belief that something is wrong with them and instead helps them recognize their inner strengths-their analytical skills, ability to think outside the box, and strong powers of concentration. It helps readers understand introversion and shows them how to determine where they fall on the introvert/extrovert continuum. It provides tools to improve relationships with partners, kids, colleagues, and friends, offering dozens of tips, including 10 ways to talk less and communicate more, 8 ways to showcase your abilities at work, how to take a child's temperament temperature, and strategies for socializing. Finally, it shows how to not just survive, but thrive-how to take advantage of the introvert's special qualities to create a life that's just right for the introvert temperament, to discover new ways to expand their energy reserves, and even how, when necessary, to confidently become a temporary extrovert.

  • I Wish I'd Read This Book 15 Years Ago!!!!

If you ask me on Monday how my weekend was, I'm likely to answer "good". If you ask me what I did, I'm likely to answer "read a book". If you give me an odd expression in return I won't mind. I'm an introvert, and I'm proud of it. Thanks to this book, I now understand that just because my idea of a good weekend involves a lot of reading interspersed with frequent cat-naps does not mean there is something wrong with me. Author Marti Olsen Laney, Psy.D. has done an exceptional job of exploring the inner workings of the introverted mind, and provides valuable advice on not just surviving in a world of extroverts, but using your strengths as an introvert to thrive. "Innies" and "Outties" alike will gain insights into their own personal energy renewal sources, and perhaps come to a better ...

  • Thoughts from an Introvert

I bought it because I had heard it referred to "AGAIN!" and thought it would be important for me to read it. It told me many things about myself that made me feel not quite so isolated and/or hard on myself as I now realize they are introvert traits. I did not feel like introverts have an "advantage," though. The book seems to reinforce that it is a lot of work to live in an "extrovert world." I plan to re-read the chapter on working in preparation for writing a "self evaluation performance appraisal" at my workplace. The book is definitely one I will keep - an excellent reference.

  • Enlightening

This material was empowering. it made sense of so much I had not understood before. Our whole society would benefit from knowing the information contained in this very readable book.

  • Great book for introverts or those that know one!

I love this book. Have recommended it to many of my introverted friends and they love it. More like a manual to help understand ourselves better and able to explain ourselves better to those that are not introverts. I always keep it near by now!
