Not your Normal Werewolf Movie- But Good thriller!
At the beginning of the film a real estate tycoon is killed, his wife, and there driver by something unknown. A New York City Detective Dewey Wilson is put on the case who is played by Albert Finney. Dewey has had personal problems, he eats donuts after running and he delivers quick one liners like a detective in an old film noir. Gregory Hines assists Finney's character as a coroner who is funny and witty, he is the kind of guy we don't want to die in a horror film. The higher ups want answers to the wealthy important man's death and do everything they can to blame it on terrorism. Wow, hard to believe this was made in 1981 and not today. The real estate tycoon was breaking ground on a new project and was planning on demolishing an entire area of slums, but these slums are a primal ... The film asks us, who are the real savages? Again ringing more true today and how we are destroying the earth and sucking everything we can out of it, but in Wolfen there are consequences, could it be gods we are to answer too? The atmosphere is also notable you can feel it, from cold breathe showing, the feeling of autumn, the shots of New York, the wind ominously blowing in the night, thunder as something lurks outside our window, all good stuff. Go into this with an open mind and not expecting a Werewolf movie, and you'll experience a lot more, a horror film with a heart and a message and horror fans you may get some blood and heads rolling about.

Despite that it is a vintage movie, this is a thrilling enough, with plenty of nail-biting moments, to keep your heart racing at a fast tempo. The wolves in the movie are breathtaking because they are R E A L! No men in animal suits, no CGI (since that didn't exist at the time of this movie's production), but real wolves. Amazing how much of the demonic materializes when a wolf bares its fangs at you. If that face and those teeth doesn't run chills down your spine, then check your pulse to make sure you are still alive. This movie teaches a powerful lesson about man and its kind. We push others out to take their homes, their land, their way of life. Sometimes, like in Wolfen, they push back. The story behind this movie is so compelling, I wonder if it is true. I love the story n the characters did a great job. Several times I was startled n jumped.

Well Worth Waiting For!
One of the best groundbreaking films to use heat sensitive exposure and steadicam to their full extent! Great story along with superlative acting make this a must have for any horror, sci-fi or even adventure film buff - gotta have a strong stomach with some of the scenes though - if not you can always hide your eyes! Took a little time to find this treasure that is now permanently in my DVD library to enjoy time and time again.One of the best groundbreaking films to use heat sensitive exposure and steadicam to their full extent! Great story along with superlative acting make this a must have for any horror, sci-fi or even adventure film buff - gotta have a strong stomach with some of the scenes though - if not you can always hide your eyes! Took a little time to find this treasure that is now permanently in my DVD library to enjoy time and time again.

Lets the viewer know it is about more than one wolf.
I like the combination of black and white film, with the contrast of red and blue colors as seen through the wolves eyes.Makes it very scary.
