Product Information

Burt Reynolds stars as the Bandit in this seminal portrayal of rough-ridin', beer-swillin', sheriff-dodgin', trouble-chasin' truckers. The Bandit's has taken on his craziest haul yet: a trailer full of Coors beer. If he can deliver the goods from Texarcana to Atlanta within forty-eight hours, he'll be $80,000 richer. Hilarious mayhem ensues, however, when the Bandit falls for a runaway bride (Sally Field). As they push toward Atlanta, the two have to evade Fields' vengeful father-in-law, Texas Sheriff Buford T. Justice (Jackie Gleason as the maniac "Smokey" of the title). The stakes get higher and the car chases more frenzied in this hysterical romp through the American highways. Charismatic performances by Reynolds and Gleason made this a huge box office draw. ITA winner. Academy Award Nominations: Best Film Editing.

    One of Burt's Best

    This movie is one of the classic high speed chase comedy movies.Burt is great as "The Bandit",as is Sally Field as "Frog",and Jerry Reed as "The Snowman".But Jackie Gleason steals the movie as "Sheriff Buford T. Justice of Texas".Plus,who could forget the black Trans Am.The story is simple in this movie.Bandit is hired (really a bet) to transport some Coors beer from Texas to Georgia in 28 hours.Unfortunately, due to federal liquor laws and state liquor tax regulations of the time, selling and/or shipping Coors east of the Mississippi River was considered bootlegging, and the truck drivers who had taken the bet previously had been discovered and arrested by "Smokey" (truck driver and CB slang for highway patrolmen).With Bandit as a "blocker" for Snowman and his rig filled with Coors they ...

    Greates comedy ever

    I just got this DVD and of course have already watched it. I love the movie itself. As I say in the title it's the greatest comedy ever in my opinion. This particular DVD however is nothing more than the original film version placed on a DVD. In some scenes you can actually see the old "dirty marks" from the actual film. The little crazy phantoms that used to get onto film either in production or editing. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give the graphics and visuals a 5 at best. like I said, it appears to be just a straight copy with no enhancements. At the same time, I'm not sure what could have been done because they didn't have anything like digital in 1977. The movie itself gets a 9.5. I have loved and will always love this movie. If you get this DVD you will still have a good laugh and enjoy ...

    Smokey and the Bandit 1977

    Truly an american classic, When a challenge is thrown down to the bandit (Burt Reynolds). To make a trip to Texas, from Atlanta and back in 28 hours. Loaded down with 400 cases of illigal Coors Beer. He enlist the help of his good friend Snowman (Jerry Reed), to make the trip with him. Along the way the Bandit picks up runaway bride Carrie (Sally Field). Trouble comes calling when her future father-in-law, the sheriff (Jackie Gleason). Starts to chase them from Texas. The movie is loaded with great one liners and great preformances. Not only a great Southren movie, but a great American Classic, and one of my favorite movies. Steve P.

    Hitchcock’s Favorite Movie

    This movie is just fun and light and entertaining. Lots of laughs and action and even a little romance. Do a search on Hitchcock and this movie. It was his favorite. It’s not my favorite. But it is worth watching over and over again.

    East bound & down! They'll never catch the Bandit!

    This needs to be in your DVD collection. Burt at his fun loving best makes this a good movie. I hadn't seen Smokie since its original release date, I had forgotten about the CB craze. Great cast, plenty of action.
