Epson R1900
I bought this printer about 2 weeks ago. I do think this is a really good printer but I think there is space for better quality prints. I know this is one of the top of the line printers, So I hope in the future printing becomes a little more up to grade. I would suggest using photo prints on almost everything you print except text documents. Also on text documents make sure that its at the lowest printing or you will really see that it's bold or Upper case. I think this printer is also hard to use and takes a while to figure out. It had a lot of great functions but they are sometimes hard to find or things seems non user friendly. I would suggest though if you have the time and love to do your own photos this is a good choice. You can buy the ink in bulk for only about two dollars a ... I bought this printer about 2 weeks ago. Which makes it fairly cheap, about 20-40 cents a full sheet of inked paper. I like this printer because I like to print onto CD's. This has actually been the best printer on the market for that. I haven't seen better to date yet. It's fast and prints them for about 10 cents each. The only thing is its 3 feet long and takes a lot of space to use. Besides that is a great printer with little flaws besides learning to use it and making sure the settings are right when you use it. You don't want to print a 50 cent text document when your trying to go and reconfig it to print it for pennies.. thank you... :P

Epson Stylus R1900 roll printer
There are not too many printers in this price range that are capable of printing on roll photo paper, but the R1900 by Epson is one of them that does an excellent job! The ink cartridges are way too small and expensive for this printer. It is much better economically to get an CISS system installed on it before the original inks run out. I bought it because I want to make my own border banners around the ceiling in my den. My wife likes the idea of making panoramic photographs to hang up around the house!There are not too many printers in this price range that are capable of printing on roll photo paper, but the R1900 by Epson is one of them that does an excellent job! Epson R1900 printer
It was a disaster at first. First printer that was sent didn't work. The tec-support section was horrible and incompetent. After three weeks I finally got a replacement after having to deal with corporate folks before any resolution. The replacement printer is truly a great printer. I've had no problems with it and the colors are excellent. I'm doing giclee prints that are coming out with all the clarity of the originals. The down side is that the ink cartridges are too small. Not a Toy
I am using this printer under Linux. Before I go back to what this printer is, IMHO, let me re-cap, for the few Unix users out there: * O/S Variant: Gentoo Linux, It really doesn&apos;t matter. * Connectivity: USB, and USB only. T * Spooler: CUPS, version 1.4.5. PPD file is the standard cups Gutenprint &quot;driver&quot; for this exact printer. * I tried the Epson/Avasys ESC/P-R driver and managed to re-compile the package. Do not listen to Epson, this driver is what they preach, but what it really is a lowest common denominator of the entire series of Epson Stylus. This is _not_ what this printer needs and it does not work anyway. I also tried pips-lite. While I could not find any documentation explaining what this is good for, I ... I suspect that these two packages are available on your platform. Do your homework before you install, and your judgement after. * User-Interface: Gimp, version 2.6.11. I am sure that Windows/MAC users feel that Adobe software is far superior, but for adjusting image attributes, what else can be done that Gimp does not already do? In any case, Gimp price/performance is far superior to any Adobe package; Now to the printer. As I said, it is not a toy. Compared to (even) an HP 6500 printing a web page on plain paper, it is painfully slow. Compared to the workflow in a small photolab (photographic analog process we all scoff at, but are yet to be able to quite match in terms of image quality - which this printer gets close to), it is very reasonable. Media: This printer is marketed as a specific glossy paper handler, and it does a very good job at it. Tuned correctly, there will be no bronzing or any other noticeable artefact, but truth be told the gloss (very good) is not quite as shiny and sparkling as the Kodak Professional Glossy Photo Inkjet Paper (CAT 142 9984) prior to printing. Yes, Kodak paper on Epson printer. What a concept, but Kodak has been in the photographic imaging for a while and actually know a thing or two about printing. Image: The R1900 is marketed for portrait photography (it even used RED, and ORANGE inks for this purpose). It is capable of producing excellent portraits But much (de)tuning is needed. Colours are too vibrant. Inks: Epson Original. The GO cartridge ran out after 10 8.5x11&quot; prints. Yes, 10 (ten). Settings: At least under Gimp/Gutenprint, there are dozens upon dozens of controls. I understand some, tried few, can guess at many, and have no idea (yet) what others do. Defects: for banding-free prints, stick to the &quot;Ultra Photo&quot; setting. Also, if you get banding even at &quot;Ultra Photo&quot;, run a &quot;Head Cleaning&quot; procedure (in CUPS). Backside: After about 5-6 prints the leading edge of the backside of the paper started getting some black/grey smearing. I will have to try one of those &quot;printer cleaning paper&quot; packages. Beware: Every head cleaning, once a day (at least), every time you open the lid of the printer, it will go through some calibration procedure. This sucks lots of ink. Built-In Obsolescence: After certain amount of ink gone through, the printer will pack-up and quit. Get a resetter program! Summary: Using it is holding a tiger by the tail. Bea

Excellent mid-level photo printer
I use this printer for both plain paper and photo printing. It does an excellent job at both. So far for photos, I've only printed on premium glossy paper and I'm very satisfied with the results. Color and clarity are very, very good. The largest size print I've done so far is 8x10 and the speed is satisfactory. Its slightly faster than the HP unit that I had before it broke down. Noise levels are acceptable, you can have a conversation without having to raise your voice with it running in the background. Setup is easy with no problems whatsoever with Windows XP.I use this printer for both plain paper and photo printing. It does an excellent job at both.
