Interesting read but outdated ideas
Interesting book, Ford has very strict ideas on how to care for a young baby and they are not for everyone. The book contains detailed daily plans from newborn through weaning encouraging parents to schedule feeds and naps. The book is useful even if you are not looking for such a regimented routine as it is full of useful advice and information on how often your baby should be feeding/sleeping at each age. I bought the book as I was interested in her theories, with no intention of following the plans, and they do not fit into my lifestyle, however i'm sure they are right for some people.Interesting book, Ford has very strict ideas on how to care for a young baby and they are not for everyone. Great help at a time when you really need it.
I think this is a great book. I was given a copy when my son was a couple of months old & found that it really worked to help him into a routine & sleep through the night. It can be slightly restrictive if you follow it completley so we took out the bits that worked for our lifestyle and found that it really worked. I'm now expecting my second child and have bought a copy ready to start her on a routine from birth this time. Especially, if like me, you don't have a lot (or any) experience with babies this is a very good place to start.I think this is a great book. Screaming baby to happy & contented baby exactly what I needed!
I wish I had had this book during my pregnancy. My daughter was 4 & a half months old before I heard about it. She had colic for the whole time, would not sleep in the day & only in bed with me at night. This book helped me to get her into a routine, I have altered the times slightly to suit me, & understand things which would have been helpful to have been informed of before or when she arrived (like how long to leave in between feeds so as not to feed to often which can cause the colic!). Following the advice in the book she now sleeps through the night 12hours, in her own room, & has three naps a day & is as the title says a contented baby & I am a contented mummy. I am now following the Contented Little Baby Book of Weaning by the same authour!I wish I had had this book during my pregnancy. My daughter was 4 & a half months old before I heard about it. Rubbish
The best thing one could do with this book is bin it. This is the most cruel book I have ever read. It tells you to act as a robot rather than a parent and the author assumes you won&amp;apos;t go out of the house ever. I agree a routine is necessary, but trying to stick with one to the minute is just ridiculous and will only leave you mad and frustrated. It contains ill advice regarding breastfeeding amongst other issues, seriously, take whatever you need from the schedules but do not try to follow them to the minute or it will drive you crazy. We are a very much happier mum and baby since I threw all the advice out of the window and trusted my gut.The best thing one could do with this book is bin it.
