Interesting thriller
There were 5 sub-stories that were told by the various people at the country house. Each had an eerie supernatural element, so even though they were told by different people who had different stories, they were linked by the strangeness of what happened and a common narrator. The sound quality was poor, but that was probably because it was an older film and they couldn't transfer the sound well, but that has nothing to do with the quality of the film itself. It's a good, scary English thriller with a unique, creative twist. Recommend it to all thriller/horror fans.There were 5 sub-stories that were told by the various people at the country house. A startling series of strange tales woven together brilliantly.
This is a quality reprint of one of my favorite films of all time. The cover design, however, has nothing whatever to do with the film itself. The film is a series of stories told by various individuals as they find themselves drawn to an old house. One involves a mirror which, when looked at, reflects a different room. The final tale of a ventriloquist who is murdered by his dummy is shockingly carried out. A great film.This is a quality reprint of one of my favorite films of all time. THIS 1940'S CULT CLASSIC WAS ONE OF THE FIRST HORROR ANTHOLOGY MOVIES EVER MADE. VERY ATMOSPHERIC, ESPECIALLY THE STORIES ABOUT A MYSTERIOUS MIRROR AND THE FINAL TALE OF THE PUPPET-COME-TO-LIFE! BEWARE-YOU ARE IN FOR A SCARE!

One of the Best Horror Anthologies
Dead of Night has suspense, humor, and a great atmosphere since its opening shot. Every story gets progressively longer throughout the film, and turn darker. The acting was superb, and the settings were appropriately designed for the film. My only complaint is that there is a background noise that can be heard in many instances during the film, which makes the experience very annoying. I did not mind it that much though, since it was a low noise. Overall, five stars.Dead of Night has suspense, humor, and a great atmosphere since its opening shot. The Long Shadow of Horror
Who wouldn't be scared after watching this visual treat from the 40s. Filmed in the glorious black and white, the list of directors keep reminding us that this not one of those slash and gore films, but a rather artful excursion in oppressive horror. Remember to take time to digest each episode of this anthology, and don't forget that films had a long lasting effect on both horror writers and directors in the future. This anthology was ahead of its time and would cast a long shadow on TV shows like Night Gallery and Twilight Zone and many of the Hammer Anthology films of the 70s. Now remember to inhale and don't close your eyes, and make sure the lights are off when viewing the episode with the .. .
