Product Information

Director Kevin Reynolds (WATERWORLD) delivers a memorable, good-looking version of the enduring Celtic legend, which has remained a quintessential love story throughout centuries of retelling. Ridley Scott makes his presence felt as executive producer, with the story unfolding on an epic scale set in medieval England. The English live under the iron rule of the Irish, and the young Tristan's parents are working to unite the tribes of England against their oppressors. When they are murdered by Irish infiltrators, Tristan is rescued by Lord Marke (Rufus Sewell, HELEN OF TROY), in whose kingdom he is raised as a son. Tristan (James Franco, SPIDER-MAN 2) grows up to be a valiant warrior and noble knight, and when he is felled in battle he is given a king's memorial, sent to sea in a boat that washes up on Irish shores. There, Tristan is revived and healed in secret by the beautiful Princess, Isolde (Sophia Myles), who at the insistence of her handmaiden doesn't tell Tristan her real name. The two beautiful young people inevitably fall in love, but their passion is cut short when Tristan is forced to flee home to England.Tristan eventually returns to Ireland to compete on Marke's behalf in a tournament for the Princess's hand in marriage, and only when he wins does he realize his error when he learns the Princess's true identity. Thus Isolde returns as Marke's bride, and, unable to deny their passion, the lovers take up a treacherous affair behind Marke's back. As Marke's enemies begin to suspect, they devise a plan to use Tristan's betrayal to break up the tenuous alliance between the English tribes.

    Reason for daydreams!

    I'm buying this movie just for James Franco! Watched it in the theaters and heard every girl in it go crazy about him, even my friends were still daydreaming about him weeks later. The movie wasn't the best directed film, but it offered an interesting change to the movies usually seen in the States - the focal point were the men in it, as opposed to the countless films where the women dominated most of the movie. Aside from that aspect, it's also a nice role reversal; Isolde is a pimpette LOL =P

    Awesome Historical Reference

    Before Romeo and Juliet there was Tristan and Isolde. I saw that tag-line on this movie once long before I saw it, and it turned me off. Then a dear friend (who is not a girlie girl) said I HAVE to see it. This movie is breathtaking! With it's awesome historical reference; the tragedies of war, love and duty - and most of all how all three of those become so unavoidably intertwined. Wow, way too many huge words - but the magnitude of the time and the scenery and the "dark ages" violence and majesty rolled into one story... so amazing! The many levels of love and loyalty for country and family and heritage... it just goes on and on... We watched in mixed company where the men and women loved the movie and I bought it the next day.     good. just one minor thing - but its not their fault i guess...

    i really love this movie so buying it for the price i did was amazing. i have nothing but good things to say except -- the cover does NOT look like the picture and something that made me a little upset; one of the prongs inside the case that holds the disk in place was broken so the disk was sliding around getting scratched. that made me a little mad but the disk still plays and isn't in too bad condition so i guess it's fine.

    Tristan & Isolde

    This is a movie you will enjoy again and again. The executive producer Ridley Scott (Gladiator) has set this saga in the British Isles after the fall of Rome where a brutial Irish king rules and Britania is split among squabbling warlords. One of these warlords, Marke (Rufus Sewell)is trying to unite the English tribes. Isolde (Sophia Myles) is the daughter of the Irish king and Tristan (James Franco) is Marke's greatest warrior and their love affair threatens the fragile truce between Ireland and the English tribes. This movie is wonderfully filmed with great attention to detail and is action packed, with an engaging love story intertwined through out. There are lots of extra features on this disk also. I highly reccommend this one!

    Recommended Viewing!!

    Tristan and Isolde is definitely a recommended movie! Believe me, I am tired of the usual forbidden love and tragic death movies too, but this one was done very well. The acting was excellent, adding that important character depth that is so needed in these kind of movies. It is not a grandiose epic movie either, it is a period piece of forbidden love nearing the end of the Roman Empire and the early European civilization. Sounds cliche, but its much better than that. At a time when hollywood is producing such regurgitated garbage, Tristan and Isolde is far above the others. Enjoy!
