units now hard to find - but still some of the best.
I have owned numerous radar detectors over the past 25 years (the old Whistler Spectrum was my first). This includes several Escorts, and even a couple of scrambler/jammers from Rocky Mountain Radar. A good friend purchaased a new K40 RD850 a few years back. Every time I was in his car, using his unit, I was always impressed with the way it worked. Simple, easy to use, and very accurate. I just recently purchased a new in the box RD850 on eBay. After several days of use...driving 40 miles each day to work and back...this unit is performing VERY well. It has detected several state troopers using "KA" from at least a mile and a half away (not bad!) and has given very adequate warnings of a few troopers "spot checking" oncoming traffic...one using "K" and the other using "KA". K40 RD850 Radar Detector
Although these are not the newest radar/laser detectors on the market, they are still among the top performers, ranking right up there with the latest $500.00+ models. They are very sensitive to all radar and laser signals, and, although no detector is infallible, usually always gives warnings in time to slow down. K40 is *THE CHOICE* for installation in $50,000+ Mercedes Benz, BMW, Porsche, and other high-end sports cars. The portable models, like the RD850 are much lower priced than the permanently mounted models, without sacrificing sensitivity or functionality. They are also very durable and dependable. I've never seen one that quit working, or even lost some of its features! You simply cannot go wrong with a K40!
