Avis les plus pertinents

  • An enjoyable and informative book on Civil War field fortifications in 1864

Hess analyses Grant's 1864 campaign, from the Wilderness to Cold Harbor, from the perspective of the field fortifications used by both sides. He not only describes the works, he considers how they fit into the offensive and defensive tactics employed. While admittedly a bit esoteric, it is very well researched and clears many inaccurate generalizations. This is a very useful book that makes a major contribution to the study of both the Civil War and fortifications in general. I found it both enjoyable and informative.
