Filmed primarily during the world tour following NEVERMIND, LIVE! TONIGHT! SOLD OUT!! includes live concert footage, interviews, behind-the-scenes exploits and shots from the band's own video archives. When Kurt Cobain took his own life in the spring of '94, Nirvana had a home video project in the works. The whole idea of the video was conceived by Cobain himself (it was to loosely chronicle the band's meteoric rise circa the Nevermind-era), and while some video shorts were completed -- such as video montages accompanied with guitar feedback -- the video lay unfinished. Surviving Nirvana members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl stepped in and finished the video later in the year, released under the title Live Tonight Sold Out. Nirvana has always been praised for their unpredictable, high-energy live shows, and LTSO shows how great the trio could be on stage. Explosive versions of "Aneurysm," "Breed," "Dive," "Territorial Pissings," and "Drain You" are obvious standouts, as well as numerous interviews with the bandmembers that offer great insight into the group, just as they were hitting it big. Also included is a disturbing performance of "Love Buzz," in which Cobain gets into a fight with an overly aggressive bouncer (you can clearly see the whole altercation unfurl bit by bit), and a hilarious rendition of "Smells Like Teen Spirit," in which the music is taped, but Cobain's vocals are live -- sung in a goofy low voice. While not all of the renditions here hit the mark (a better version of "Come As You Are" could have replaced the out of tune and badly sung version that resides here), Live Tonight Sold Out overall is a superb collection of Nirvana circa Nevermind. ~ Greg Prato

The Boys Are Back In Town
One of the most powerful heavy rock trios to ever grace the airwaves- Nirvana. And yet even the sudden demise of the lead songwriter and singer of the band, Kurt Cobain, by a self inflicted wound, doesn't blur in anyway the focus of the band. The attemp to bridge the disco/metal/acid rock of the sixties and seventies with the punk rock of the eighties was done with absolute precision. I guess the real genius behind the band was that they all seemed to understand, on the most potent levels, exactly what Kurt was attempting musically. It's no small task to read the mind of a genius and try to play along. Therefore, it comes as absolutely no surprise that the drummer, Dave Grohl, would go on to become an international star himself as frontman of Foo Fighters. It should also be observed ... It acts as part documentary, part live video as interviews with the members and performances are captured in a sort of timely sequence. Yet, it doesn't bore us with the same old documentary layout of starting from the beginning of the band to now. It seems to jump right into the deep end, making it almost like a realtime peak into the lives and styles of this amazing trio out of Seattle, WA. I'll let the viewer make up there own mind how best to describe the possible theme's of this little treasure. Suffice it to say, it has become a lost gem as the crappy documentaries start rolling smf attempt to disclose the reasons behind the early demise of Kurt, taking the focus off the music. That's correct, this film was done before Kurt expired. A must for Nirvana fans and those who are curious about what musical genius looks and sounds like.

This is a great vhs tape for hardcore nirvana fans. Not a whole concert but lots of interviews and good stuff and clips of concert. Well worth the money.

These guys need to go back to school! Terrible music and musicianship! There music and performance does not warrant such popularity. There are no stand outs, no stage presence to speak of. Just a garage band! What a joke!
