The true story of one of Nashville's most innovative instrumentalists comes to the screen in this biographical drama based on the life of Hank Garland. Garland (played by Waylon Payne) was a gifted guitarist who rose among the ranks of aspiring country music stars to become one of Music City's busiest session players. Garland performed and recorded with the likes of Patsy Cline (Mandy Barnett), Roy Orbison (Brian Jones) and Elvis Presley (Jason Alan Smith), and Garland's musical interests went beyond country and pop; he loved jazz, and inspired by Wes Montgomery, he intended to bridge the gap between country and jazz, forming a jazz combo and cutting a celebrated album called JAZZ WINDS FROM A NEW DIRECTION. But Garland was also a deeply troubled man; his passion for music could seem obsessive to many who worked with him, he had a short fuse when it came to people he felt were taking advantage of his talents, and his womanizing ways led him into a ill-fated relationship with Evelyn (Ali Larter), who discovered too late that she had many rivals for his affections, with music at the top of the list. However, it was neither a sour relationship nor an unappreciative audience that caused the tragedy that ended Garland's career before its time. CRAZY was the first feature film from director Rick Bieber.

Ali Larter plays a great role as Hank's wife. It is cool to see Steve Vai play Hank Williams character too. Wish he would have played though. . .

Colorful but disappointing.
While I love country music from the 50's and 60's and generally enjoy movies that focus on artists and music from that era this movie was an extreme disappointment as both entertainment and on telling the tragic story of Hank Garland. The screenwriting and direction are poor. Some of the confusion and unexplained motivations of the characters only become clearer when watching the deleted scenes. The factual errors are laughable, such as putting Hank Williams on the Opry in 1945, but in themselves do not damn the movie. Though I realize that this was meant to be a fictionalized account of Hank Garland the treatment of his accident and the ensuing events are neither accurate nor compellingly dramatic. A more accurate, or conspiratorial, rendering of the events of the accident would have ... It's suggested that his wife set him up for the accident but again, the deleted scene makes the connection clearer. Hank's condition after the accident and the shock treatments given him, are not quite accurate or beievable. Again the wife's motivation is murky. She has him out of the way so why is this treatment necesssary? The movie makes you fill in so much information that it takes a lot of the pure interest and enjoyment from watching. The actors do a fine job and are very believable and appealling and the sets and costumes and overall recreation of the era are all detailed and colorful. If only this movie had a better director and script it could have been one of the best films about Nashville. Even with its flaws it's more watchable than Altman's Nashville.

You just have to watch this one.I saw it once and got the DVD right here on EBAY within 3 days.I have watched it at least 6 times since I got it last week.
